Championship Worthy Olympic Craft Projects

While some wish to put their Olympic spirit on their food, others tend to put it to more long lasting purposes. For me, gathering pictures of Olympic craft projects was quite of a challenge for me because most of craft results I found were for children. And as you’ve seen in my craft posts, I don’t do a lot of kids’ stuff. This is mostly because most craft projects are aimed for children which include paper, glue, and other simple materials. But these aren’t really built to last other than as something you can put on your refrigerator. However, I do think a paper plate Olympic rings makes for a great opening image. Nevertheless, on my epic journey to find some viable Olympic craft images, I had to type in so many different search terms like “Olympic quilts,” “Olympic crochets,” “Olympic amigurumi,” “Olympic DIY,” “Olympic flower pots,” and “Olympic wine glasses.” Didn’t help that some of the Team USA ones bore some resemblance to my 4th of July craft projects either. So for your Olympic reading pleasure, I now give you an Olympic treasure trove of the Olympic crafts I found.

How about have your Olympic rings taped?

Each ring consists of one role of different color electrical tape. Save the black one, because electrical tape normally appears in that color.

2. Rings on an Olympic scarf all interlock.

Yes, this is a crocheted Olympic scarf. Not sure if it’ll keep you warm. But it’s pretty cool.

3. Guess these metal rings go on your door to support Team USA.

I think this might be bought. Nevertheless, I think this is for the London 2012 Games.

4. For Winter Olympic decorations, you can’t do better than this wreath.

This one supports Team USA, too. However, this year’s Olympics is more based on the summer stuff and will take place in Rio.

5. This crocheted Olympic blanket and pillow also make for a great throw.

However, why these are on display near a pool, I don’t have the slightest idea. Still, like how they match.

6. How about a knitted buddy of Dick Fosbury?

Dick Fosbury was a high jumper who came up with the Fosbury Flop in the 1970s. It was said to bring a shock to the major high jumpers everywhere at the time.

7. Support Team USA by hanging a wreath like this at your door.

Notice that I posted one saying “Team USA” instead of a conventional USA wreath. That’s because Team USA is an Olympic team while conventional USA decor can also be used for the 4th of July.

8. There’s nothing lovelier than a necklace of Olympic rings.

Well, this seems quite simple to make. Well, once you have the rings of 5 different colors, no less.

9. In the Winter Games show your Team USA spirit with this Olympic knitted beanie.

Not sure if this is an Olympic craft project. But it’s more suited for winter than summer. Unless you live in the polar regions.

10. May you make your own Olympic flame that shines just as bright.

I think this one might use a flashlight. At any rate, the effect is almost the same. Just not with real fire.

11. It may not be real gold, but this amigurumi medal will bring you joy.

Sure it’s promoted as a PDF pattern in this photo. But it’s so cute nonetheless.

12. Carl Lewis has just become a lot more woolier.

Carl Lewis was an Olympic and World Championship track star who won 10 Olympic medals and 10 World Championship medals in his career. Also set some world records.The IAAF voted him as “World Athlete of the Century.”

13. For any Olympic party, may I present to you the perfect centerpiece.

Features Olympic rings and a light up torch. Also has stars on the bottom. Love it.

14. Now here is a great Olympic tribute to the late Jesse Owens.

Jesse Owens was a 4 time Olympic medalist in the 1930s as well as set 3 World Records. At the Berlin Olympics in 1936, he’s best known for “single-handedly crush[ing] Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy,” which pissed off Hitler. Recognized in his lifetime as “perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history.”

15. This Olympic quilt sure has an international presence.

Because this has flags from so many different country. Whoever made this certainly worked their ass off.

16. I’m sure Olympic rings will look great when wrapped in cloth.

I guess this is for a party. Like how they had these rings interlock like the rings you see on the Olympic flag.

17. Florence Griffith Joyner is now available in yarn.

Florence Griffth Joyner was an American track athlete who’s consider the fastest woman of all time. Died of a seizure in her sleep at 38.

18. Here we come to a paper Olympic stadium.

This was made by a class at some school. But it’s nevertheless incredible to see.

19. This Olympic wreath is made of pom poms and has an American flag hanging.

This looks quite inventive. Bet this is to show support for Team USA no doubt.

20. For a large Olympic flag, use hula hoops for rings.

Man, this is a large flag. Not sure if the hula hoops work but it’s quite inventive.

21. I guess this is a cut out of the gymnastics section.

This was also made by the same group of students who did the stadium. And here they’re presenting medals.

22. For a more rustic Olympics, this grapevine ring wreath is just for you.

Never seen a wreath like this before. Then again, this could be hung at a shop somewhere.

23. How about an Olympic wreath at your front door?

This is a yarn Olympic wreath. Each ring is wrapped in a different color. And they’re all held up by a single string.

24. When it comes to storing candy for champions, these Olympic jars are just the ticket.

Hope the black one contains chocolate. Still, like how each jar lid has a ring on it.

25. Before Michael Phelps, there was Mark Spitz. Here he is in wool.

Mark Spitz was an Olympic swimmer who held 7 world records and won 9 gold medals in his career. Also sported a porn stache in the 1970s.

26. From the 2008 Beijing Olympics, here we have their mascots in amigurumi.

These are the fuwa. Their names are Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini. These translate to “Beijing welcomes you.” Too bad, they didn’t have one representing air pollution.

27. This Winter Olympic quilt will have you reach for the stars.

Because this one features only Winter Olympic events. Still, I’m going to include it though. Because I’m covering stuff from both.

28. This crocheted Olympic beanie makes any kid look like a champion.

Maybe not. But it certainly looks adorable. However, since it’s July in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s not seen as seasonally appropriate.

29. This Olympic necklace only uses a few simple beads.

Now this is a rather interesting twist. Like how this has beads you can find at a craft store.

30. Sometimes it’s best to stay with simplicity.

Guess this one didn’t take long to make and supports Team USA. Like the red, white, and blue ribbon as well as the hanging rings.

31. There’s no trendier hat in the Olympics than one made of felt.

This is probably from a winter Olympics, most likely Toronto’s. Still, I’d wear it if I could.

32. For Team Canada, this amigurumi of Komak the Moose will melt your heart.

Hey, I didn’t say that I was only going to show Team USA stuff. But there are some Olympic teams that do have mascots like Canada. However, I’ll get to the mascots in another post.

33. Man, this torch is surely golden when nailed to a wall.

Well, that’s one way of making an Olympic flame. Quite ornate to say the least.

34. Those supporting Team USA might opt for a more star spangled treatment.

If this wreath didn’t have Olympic rings on it, it would’ve been just an American Flag wreath. With rings, it’s one for Team USA.

35. This amigurumi skier excels at cross country.

I think this was made for an Olympic contest. Skier also tends to resemble a snowball. But it’s cute.

36. Ever heard of a torch rabbit before?

Of course, rabbits don’t run with torches. But this is quite adorable. Like the sad eyes.

37. These Olympic rings were made in a patchwork effort.

You see how each of the rings were made from different cloth strips. Made for the London Olympics as indicated.

38. This Olympic display has each ring on wheels.

They’re probably bike wheels without tires. But each is painted a different color and hung to a wall.

39. A metal Olympic hanging is great for hoisting over a garage.

Not sure if the rings are made from metal. Not sure if I’d want this hanging over a garage either. Yet, it casts a nice shadow.

40. With black duct tape and pool noodles, you can make a really nifty Olympic game.

So the object is throwing the pool noodle through these rings. Made for parties.

41. Instead of Olympic rings, how about Olympic rosettes?

At least they’re easier than rings. And look nice on headbands.

42. From Australia, is sprinter Cathy Freeman in knitted form.

Cathy Freeman was an Australian Olympic sprinter and said to be the 6th fastest woman in the world. She’s also one of the most famous people of Australian aboriginal descent. Lit the Olympic flame at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

43. These Olympic rings can very well stand alone.

Yes, I showed an Olympic yarn wreath before. But this one is standing and the rings don’t overlap.

44. From the former Soviet Union hails Belarussian gymnast Olga Korbut in knit.

Called “Sparrow from Minsk,” Olga Korbut won 4 Olympic gold medals in the 1970s. Her specialty was the “Korbut flip.” Defected to the US due to Chernobyl (for obvious reasons).

45. These amigurumi rings are in a great crocheted form.

I’m sure this isn’t easy to make. But they all seem to look happy together regardless.

46. In my opinion, these Russian nesting judges are all perfect 10s.

I guess these were made for the Winter Games in 2014 for Sochi. Nevertheless, these are so adorable and it’s a clever design.

47. Fans of the London Olympics of 2012, will appreciate this pillow.

This one has the London Olympic logo in a Union Jack pattern. So creative.

48. This olive wreath will surely go well on your Olympic sofa.

Okay, that might be a joke. But olive wreaths were given to Olympic victors in ancient Greece. So it’s an Olympic symbol.

49. Large Olympic rings are always great to hang from your porch.

Assuming your porch has a roof of some sort. Still, I’m sure it’s bound to stand out.

50. An Olympic quilt like this features several kinds of sports.

I guess these feature both Summer and Winter Olympic events. Yet, like how it looks great on that wall.

51. This Olympics curl up on your couch with this rings pillow.

This one was most likely made for the Sochi Olympics. But it can be used for either summer or winter.

52. If an Olympic ring wreath’s not your thing, perhaps go with deco mesh.

This one consists of the Olympic ring colors. Then again, I think the ring wreaths are better.

53. Colored pencils are great for Olympic earrings.

Well, as far as this pair goes. However, if I made earrings like these, they wouldn’t turn out well.

54. Sometimes crocheted rings look better on a necklace.

After all, they seem to go nicely together. Though some of these colors are lighter variations.

Or is it a necklace? Sometimes you can’t tell. Either way, sure looks nice.

Sure it’s not in real gold. But it’s bound to look great on your front door.

Don’t tell me that they’re doing current mascots already. Also, I don’t want to comment on this one since I want to save such things for a later post.

Well, these look quite elegant. However, some people might not know what they have to do with the Olympics. But I wouldn’t mind wearing them.

59. On this Olympic cloth, the rings are squared.

I guess this is another Olympic quilt design. Like how it has a unique spin on the rings. Don’t see anything like that every day.

60. Don’t be fooled, these nesting dolls don’t conform to the Russian stereotype.

Because they have obviously Canadian uniforms. Just see for yourself.

61. Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci is seen here immortalized in wool.

Nadia Comaneci was a Romanian Olympic gymnast during the 1970s who won 3 gold medals. First to be awarded a perfect score of 10. Later famously defected to the US in the 1980s.

62. Here is Jamaican Usain Bolt in his woolen best.

Jamaican Usain Bolt is said to be the fastest man in the world. Has won 6 Olympic gold medals and 11 World championships.

63. From Britain are knitted figures of Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett.

Sebastian Coe was an Olympic track and field athlete who has won 4 Olympic medals and set 11 world records in the 1980s. Now a British politician and lord. Served as chairman for the London 2012 Games.

64. From Sweden is heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft in knit.

Carolina Kluft was a Swedish Athlete who won the heptathlon in the 2004 Olympics. She’s the only athlete to win 3 world titles in the sport.

65. Here we have a view of the Olympic rainbow and rings in yarn.

Now that’s pretty amazing. Probably made by someone with too much time on their hands.

66. This adorable Olympic bear will melt your heart.

Or is it a pig due to its snout and short ears? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. But it’s so cute.

67. This Olympic ring wreath has a festive ring to it.

Of course, it’s hung in a reverse position. But I think it’s unique to put on this post.

68. With clay polymer, you can create your own Olympic sunglasses.

A must have for any spectator in Rio. And fitting for any Summer Olympic Games.

Yes, these are made of wood. And yes, they lock. But no, I don’t think they stand up as far as I’m concerned.

Because why use rings when roses will do just the same? Love it.

A must have for Olympic athletes in Rio. Because Rio doesn’t smell of roses.

This one also uses tissue paper for flames. Because for obvious safety reasons.

But they’re Olympic rings. Probably made for Sochi in 2014.

Now those are large rings to wear on your head. However, the fan stuff is for another post.

Much of the flame on this one is made from foam. Yet, still uses an urn as a receptacle.

77. This Olympic bracelet has the spirit of international friendship and sportsmanship.

However, you have to account for the steroid use, competitiveness, and political grandstanding, too. Such spirit has a price.

78. This Olympic torch can be used to decorate your mantle.

This was made for the Winter Olympics. But like some of the other torches, uses tissue paper for flames.

79. These wire rings look good on any champ.

Even on a necklace. However, best not wear it during the Winter Games though.

Sure this one might’ve been for the 2012 London Games. But it has a lot of bright colors. Probably made for kids.

Celebrate the Stars and Stripes Forever with These Star Spangled 4th of July Craft Projects

When it comes to 4th of July, some Americans take the holiday more seriously and go all out than others. For instance, my family hardly does anything special on the 4th other than watch fireworks outside at night. Yet, there are communities that stage 4th of July parades as well as have 4th of July picnics. Then there are residents that have 4th of July picnics or barbecues as well. Yet, on 4th of July, there are plenty of Americans who decorate their homes in a patriotic flair like this one shown above. Families like mine don’t do this. But plenty do since 4th of July decorations are now on sale at stores during this time, especially American flags. Yet, for some people, 4th of July decorations like these don’t seem unique enough for there taste. So these people make their own in order to celebrate the holiday. And yes, you can find plenty of 4th of July crafts on Pinterest and Etsy, too. Many of these DIY decorations are clad in red, white, and blue as well as may contain an American flag. So for your reading pleasure, I bring you to the star spangled world of unforgettable 4th of July craft projects.

An American flag quilting square is well suited for any wall.

And it looks quite fine for over a table. Like the star part on it. Yes, it’s cool.

2. Plants are sure to thrive in this star spangled planter.

This consists of 2 flower pots. The smaller is of stripes. The larger is blue with white stars.

3. These wooden firecrackers will surely bring a bang to your decor.

Sure they may not explode. But they are clad like the American flag and are great for either indoors or outdoors.

4. A red, white, and blue wooden chair looks great with a Betsy Ross star design.

And you can sit your ass on there whenever you’d like on the 4th of July. Still, remember Betsy Ross didn’t design the first American flag. Honest she didn’t.

Just note that making anything with an American flag pattern takes a lot of time and precision. Because the flag itself has a lot of small details to account for like stars for instance.

Well, that looks quite rustic. Like how they tied all the sticks together. Lovely.

As you can see with this pair of wreaths. Then again, neither seem very hard to do at any rate.

I’ve seen such trees like it for other holidays. But this one certainly goes well for 4th of July or any patriotic holiday.

Well, the flowers certainly go with the boot design. But don’t try to wear them. Really, it’s not a good idea.

The dip area goes in the star place by the way. But I’m not sure if you’d want to use a tray like this at a 4th of July party.

18. An American flag can be easily painted on a panel of wood.

But like I said, patience, persistence, and precision is needed. Also, you’d probably not produce something as nice like this.

Anyone could just say so for themselves. Because it looks so patriotic and festive.

20. There’s no wreath that captures the patriotic spirit like a stars and stripes one of tulle.

Only a quarter of it is blue with 3 white stars. The rest is of red and white stripes all around.

Wonder if they have a male version of this. And I wonder if it comes with an Uncle Sam chef’s hat along with it.

Of course, the flowers on these are totally fake like you’d see in a cemetery during the winter. But this is very pretty just the same.

23. For your patriotic porch swing, you’ll need some patriotic cushions a 4th of July occasion.

This set has a red seat with 2 striped pillows and 1 long pillow with stars. A great American outdoor arrangement, may I say.

24. I’m sure you can put these firecrackers right out in your lawn.

Because unlike real firecrackers, they don’t really explode and cause any danger to humans. Also, you can decorate them as you please.

25. For simplicity’s sake you can always wrap an American flag on a wreath.

But make sure it’s small enough and bought cheap. Because you don’t want to put a real one on there. Like the blue star though.

26. Got old wine glasses? Make patriotic candle holders out of them.

And you could make 2 with stripes and 1 with stars. Also, you can use string for a rustic touch.

27. Show your love for the US by decorating your mailbox in star spangled glory.

Yet, since it’s made of wood, it’s probably better off as decoration. Then again, the candle could be fake and battery powered.

These have red and white straps and blue bows with stars. However, don’t wear these in a public shower. They’re not for that.

Actually I made that up. But they surely seem pretty from sea to shining sea.

Well, I don’t think you can. But this setup does make a really nice 4th of July decoration.

On houses, doors and windows are fixtures that you use to get in and out of or look out of without fear of the weather. You see these features on every house. However, houses don’t always last and these fixtures might be seen on a secondhand store or a junkyard. Sometimes they’re recycled and put into new houses or to replace the doors and window that somehow got lost in a disaster or wore out. Yet, sometimes you’ll find people using old doors and windows for other projects whether it be for new furniture, gardening fixtures, or decorations like you’d see on Pinterest. Because after all, there’s always something to do with doors and windows whether it be as a DIY project or not. So for your reading pleasure, I give you the repurposed project of doors and windows.

Old screen doors are said to make great room dividers.

And I guess this one took 3 of them. Not sure about the aesthetics but it seems to work.

2. An old screen door can also make a great garden gate.

Well, that seems more fitting for a screen door if you get a high enough fence. Love the foliage on here, too.

While some Disney fans buy merchandise to own a piece of the Disney magic, there are some who make their own. In Disney, you find a lot of people doing crafts. The Good Fairies from Sleeping Beauty make a dress for Aurora’s 16th birthday even though Flora and Merrywether can’t agree on the color. You have Gepetto who makes Pinocchio out of wood before the Blue Fairy gives him life and a chance to become a real boy. Then there’s Cinderella and the mice who touch up a dress that her stepsisters later tear apart right before it’s time for a ball. I may not think that Cinderella is one of the best Disney princesses since she had almost everything handed to her. However, you have to admit that she at least did something to achieve what she wanted, even if it was to go to a party. Since Disney is very popular as a brand all over the world, I didn’t have much trouble finding craft projects. Yet, whether they’re licensed by Disney is anyone’s guess. Nevertheless, you’ll find all kinds of Disney craft projects on Pinterest whether they be for decoration, parties, or what else. So for your reading pleasure, here are some magical craft projects from Disney. Just not the kind of magic you see in Disney movies.

Star Trek Craft Projects from Garak’s Clothiers

As with any franchise with a large fandom, you have some fans who are perfectly content with buying merchandise from large companies seeking to make a profit. And then you have the devotees who wish to make stuff to show their love in their art. Trekkies are no different. Still, in the Star Trek universe while you don’t really have people making stuff, you have Garak’s Clothiers from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Well, let’s just say Garak is the only guy in the franchise who does something that comes close to doing craft projects. After all, he calls himself a tailor by trade and is sees doing some alterations. However, he also does some work on the side and since he’s a Cardassian and friends with Dr. Bashir, you can’t really tell what side he’s on. After all, he did tell Dr. Bashir that he wanted him to come to see him for a new suit at a specified time so he could hear him conversing with two really scary Klingon women. Nevertheless, you have plenty of Trekkies who make craft projects that you might see on Etsy or Pinterest at one time or another. Some of these could be irresistibly adorable. Others, well, might make you wonder what were they thinking. So for your galactic reading pleasure, I give you a treasure trove of Star Trek craft projects.

Because I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for a crib height wise. Nevertheless, I like the purple one the best.

You know the futuristic technology you see Spock with that’s now horribly outdated. Yeah, kids have calculators more sophisticated than that. Still, this is meant to be a bag you put on your belt.

Well, it seems to resemble the ship if it was made in yarn. But I still think it’s a worthy effort on the creator’s part.

23. Of course, we should always pay respect to the dearly departed Starfleet security officers.

Here lies a Red Shirt known only to God. Because if we knew who he was, he wouldn’t have been killed on that planet in the first place.

Well, this seems official since it has the Starfleet insignia. Better drawing than I could’ve done that’s for sure.

Tribbles must be the easiest Star Trek creatures to make since they’re just little puff balls. However, these cuties caused a lot of trouble on the Enterprise in one episode.

Yes, they made cow versions of Kirk and Spock. Don’t ask me why. But neither has udders which you see a lot on male cows in cartoons.

Fiesta Worthy Cinco de Mayo Craft Projects

While it’s contrary to popular belief in America, Cinco de Mayo isn’t Mexico’s independence day. That, mi amigo, is on Diez y Seis de Septembre. Rather it’s a holiday that’s observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory against the French in on the 5th of May in 1862 called the Battle of Puebla. Note that at the time Mexico was taken over by France 6 months before that and it had previously been an independent nation since the early 1800s. This should be obvious to us Americans since Texas fought a war with them to gain independence from Mexico and that US fought a war with Mexico during the 1840s so it could take over some of its lands. So what the Mexicans were fighting for in 1862 was to regain their independence, this time from the French. Did the Battle of Puebla accomplish that? Well, in the short run. It wasn’t a strategic victory, just a symbolic one for the Mexican government which bolstered a resistance movement as well as establish a much needed national unity and patriotism. A year later, France would send 30,000 troops to defeat the Mexican Army, capture Mexico City, installed Maximilian I as “Emperor,” and occupied the country for 3 years from 1864-1867. Sure the Battle of Puebla was a significant battle since it was an unlikely victory by the Mexican Army who were against an enemy that was better equipped and outnumbered them 11,000 to 4,000. And the fact that no country in the Americas has been invaded by a European military force ever since.Yes, that’s quite impressive. But I don’t understand why Mexico would want to honor the Battle of Puebla with a holiday like Cinco de Mayo. It just makes no sense to me because you can say the same about some of the battles during the American Revolution and Americans don’t make holidays over the Battles of Trenton or Princeton. Besides, it’s said that the first Cinco de Mayo celebration wasn’t in Mexico at all, but by Mexican American miners in California in 1863. And it’s actually more of a significant holiday for Mexican Americans. In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo isn’t exactly a national holiday and its observance there is like how Americans observe Columbus Day. Sure public schools tend to be closed on May 5, nationwide in Mexico, but other than that, not much else except in Puebla and Veracruz. Nevertheless, since Cinco de Mayo is a significant holiday for Mexican Americans, then I probably should do a post on it. After all, Mexicans are the largest Latino group in the US, which makes Cinco de Mayo a major holiday in California and Texas. So for your reading pleasure, I give you a treasure trove of Cinco de Mayo craft projects.

A decomesh fiesta wreath always shows where the party is.

I have to admit, this is a lovely fiesta wreath. Like the pinata in the center.

2. This flower pot is well suited for cacti.

Well, the cacti and this flower pot give it a real Mexican feel. Love how it’s painted.

3. Empty Corona bottles always make great Cinco de Mayo vases.

Well, the water in the bottles has food coloring in it to get the transparent color look. But the flowers are lovely.

4. Sometimes a sombrero is too pretty to wear on a Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

This one is covered in flowers and is used as an outdoor decoration. Love the ribbons, too. So pretty.

5. You can make a fiesta floral wreath with some ribbons, bows, and tissue paper.

The tissue paper involved with this wreath is used for flowers. But it looks quite festive just the same.

Well, these sombreros seem to be made from styrofoam. And those pinatas seem quite small. But I like it.

According to Pinterest, this is said to come from Martha Stewart’s website. Still, I hope those chili peppers are plastic because real chili peppers should only be used for cooking.

10. Don’t live where’s there’s cacti? How about use rocks instead?

I have to admit, painting rock cacti is pretty creative. I recommend this for Chicanos who might celebrate Cinco de Mayo in my neck of the woods.

Well, that certainly looks festive. Love the bright colors and ribbons on this one.

I’ve seen these on Pinterest and Etsy. While, indeed festive, I’m not sure where I’d put one if I had one.

I’ve seen a lot of these, too. A lot of them are just cucumbers in pots with toothpicks in them. At least these have flowers.

60. Nothing makes a better Cinco de Mayo fiesta than having a sombrero wreath at your door.

Well, this one brings out a festive mood. Like how it’s decorated with ribbons, a serape, and a guitar.

This one seems more simpler than the other wreaths. Maybe because it uses a serape, a guitar, and some floral decor.

The Bright Sunny World of Suncatchers

For the wind chime’s optical equivalent, you have the suncatcher. Believed to be originally made by the Southwestern Native Americans, these things are pieces of reflective glass or nacre that are hung indoors at windows to catch the light from a nearby source. Of course, I’m not sure if I’d ever have these in my home since my dad has a tendency for migraines. However, you can also put suncatchers outdoors as well and they do make ones specifically for gardens as you shall see. Some of the designs like you see above could be abstract, perhaps with some mobile like chained elements. And sometimes they, too can be attached to wind chimes like you’ve probably saw. More complex designs can evoke plants or animals. Many of the wind chimes you might see can be massed produced. Others made by hand which you might see on Etsy or Pinterest. And in this post, I give you a treasure trove of suncatchers for your eyes’ desires.

A purple butterfly is sure to shine through the window.

But not when it’s overcast as you see here. But still, this is quite pretty.

2. If you like bluebirds at your window, you might like this suncatcher.

Like butterflies, birds also tend to be a common suncatcher motif. You’ll see a few of these.

The Windswept World of Wind Chimes

A key decoration you might see outside buildings during the spring and summer are wind chimes. These are are a type of percussion instrument constructed from suspended tubes, rods, bells or other objects often made of metal or wood. They tend to be suspended along with a weight which the tubes or rods can strike when they or another wind catching surface are blown by the natural air movement outside. And since Southwestern Pennsylvania has no shortage of wind on most days, wind chimes tend to be popular as garden and porch ornaments around these parts. My grandmother particularly likes them as I’ve seen when I go to my grandparents’ house. However, while hanging wind chimes in the west began with the Romans, they’ve also been associated with decorating in India, China, and Japan. As of today, I tend to see a lot of wind chimes on sale. Yet, many of these tend to have the conventional look. So this is where I turn to Pinterest which brings me to a whole world of more creative wind chimes that many people made themselves. And I share some of these with you today.

There’s something fishy about this one.

Well, the chimes on here are made from a ceramic fish. Not sure if the pieces fit together. But it’s not bad.

2. Who knew you can make chimes from plastic bottles.

Sure they’re probably from a craft store of some type. But they sure look pretty.

3. A sun wind chime always has to have some bells.

Well, this one only has 3. I don’t think this one was handmade. But I like it so it goes on this post.

4. Some wind chimes have all jingles.

I bet this one makes a lot of noise when it’s really windy out. In my area, I’ve known quite a few.

5. Sometimes you have to top your wind chime with a mosaic flower.

I’m sure the chimes are attached at the flower. But the flower is so beautiful.

These are shaped like feathers. But they’re plastic because feathers don’t make much of a sound.

You see a lot of spring motifs with wind chimes. This wire butterfly has marbles for the colors.

You tend to see a lot of cutlerly in wind chimes. Not sure if it enhances the aesthetic or brings out the sound.

This one has beads coming out from a watering can. Not sure why the wire ends are there. Probably for decoration.

I don’t think this is handmade. After all, the metal on this seems fairly manufactured. But I do think it’s very beautiful.

32. Sometimes all you need for a wind chime is a funnel cake pan and some necklace chains.

That has to be a large wind chime as far as I could see. Still you have to love the stuff they have for the chimes part.

The beads on these strands seem to follow a pattern. And each have a blue rectangle at the end.

Like I said before about comic book superheroes, while they tend to seen as something loved by geeks, they are part of the American cultural heritage that must be recognized. Seriously, many of your DC and Marvel superheroes have been around longer than Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and many popular TV shows. Hell, Super Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain America have been fighting bad guys in comic books before television. The X-Men and the Avengers originally got together before you’ve ever heard of Trekkies or Jedi. Nevertheless, while many fans might go for the merchandise, some creative types might salute their superheroes through their art. And of course, there are superheroes in the Marvel Universe who like to make things. Maybe not craft projects. After all, while Tony Stark can make a radioactive heart and an Iron Man suit. Hell, he even made a heart with a new element in his workshop. However, most craft projects aren’t as sophisticated as what Tony Stark makes in his man cave. Yet, some people do have craft projects in their workshops or their garage. Nevertheless, you find plenty of Marvel craft projects on Pinterest if you take a look. Yes, this is the quality American super soldier quilt. And yes, it’s incredibly awesome.

I think the Infinity Gauntlet is from Guardians of the Galaxy which is said to belong to Thanos. Still, I think this is very pretty. Love the stones on this.

While the popularity of comic book superheroes leads to lots of commercialism and merchandise, there are plenty of fans who prefer to make their own gear. Sure superheroes and crafts might not seem to go together since superheroes are associated with guys and crafts with women. However, we should note that there are plenty of female superhero fans out there as you’ve probably seen in my DC Comics costume post. And there are plenty of guys who do craft projects. After all, wood and metal work also counts as crafts. Besides, a lot of comic book superhero fans do make their own costumes, male or female. Nevertheless, if you go on Pinterest or Etsy, you’re bound to find all kinds of superhero craft projects. Some of them might be made by parents for children. Some might be made by adult fans for themselves or to sell on Etsy. And some might be made by repressed art majors or people with too much time on their hands. But whatever the case, there are people who make these things out of love for their comic book superheroes. So for your reading pleasure, I give you a super assortment of super DC Comics crafts. Note that many of these aren’t licensed by Time Warner. A lot of these will pertain to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman by the way.

And this has to be the most adorable Wonder Woman I’ve seen. Still, so cute.

It LED by the way. Still, love how it looks in the dark. Seems rather menacing.

And this one has the Superman symbol emblazoned in the center. But I’m sure it will make a super great addition to anyone’s place.

This one has the bat signal over Gotham city. And yes, it looks really awesome.

These consist of Batman, Robin, Joker, and the Riddler. Not sure if I’d want to use the Riddler one. Wouldn’t know what’s in it.

However, I’m not sure how Superman conducts himself in the kitchen. Then again, it might depend on whether he’s Superman or Clark Kent at the moment.

Yes, this owl flies faster than a speeding bullet. And shoots laser eyes. Not sure if I’d want to see that.

Always have to do nesting dolls for a craft post like this. Includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and the Green Lantern.

100. At a party, a superhero always needs to drink from a Superman wine glass.

I’m sure whoever drinks it might cause massive collateral damage in Metropolis. That is, assuming they’re Superman.
