Scary and Eerily Adorable DIY Halloween Costume Inspirations (Second Edition)

Ajax is stronger than dirt, keeping dishes clean and me from having dishwashy hands so my husband won’t drop me for some scheming hoebag who’s never washed any dishes in her life. Okay, it’s not a great rendition of a vintage ad housewife. And I know they didn’t have Ajax dish liquid in the Mad Men era. But I think it’s kind of funny.

As we all know, Halloween is a time when we don our costumes with the possibility of going trick or treating, a parade, or a party. Yes, I know that many retailers feature plenty of costumes to choose from. However, as a woman, I have doubts as to how many girls would want a sexy Winnie the Pooh costume or sexy Elmo. Because those characters shouldn’t be sexy. They’re for children, people. Anyway, last year I did a post on DIY Halloween costumes which did quite well during this time of year. So I decided to do another one since I have so many of these costume pics left over. Yes, I know my vintage maven costume isn’t my best efforts since my hair doesn’t hold up. Not to mention, Ajax dish liquid didn’t come out until 1971 though the brand was around during the Mad Men era, an age noted for a treasure trove of advertising I tend to make fun of a lot on this blog. Anyway, I bring you another installment of DIY Halloween costumes if you’re still wondering on what to be for the holiday.

French Painter

Well, he’s a pallet, anyway. But this seems like an easy costume with a beret, pallet boards, and a brush. Don’t forget the French mustache.

2. Eiffel Tower

This is a different one from last year since it’s in adult size. But like the Parisian structure, it can’t be ignored.

3. Dexter and His Victim

Well, both are easy costumes to make. Yet, it might make people wonder if you two are mentally sound. The plastic wrap is great, by the way.

4. Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty

Of course, this is the kind of couples’ costume where taking the sexy route makes more sense. This is especially when it’s DIY.

5. Dwight Schrute

You know the weird creepy guy from The Office who’s always sucking up to Michael? Well, this little girl dressed up at him. I know younger viewers may not get this reference.

6. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

An easy costume with two slices of bread covered in different color plastic wrap. So cute.

7. Mrs. Butterworth and Waffle

Mrs. Butterworth is a syrup brand. But I like how she’s dressed like the bottle.

8. Rosie the Riveter

While some girls want to be princesses, this little lady dresses up as an iconic munitions worker. Yes, we can do it! indeed.

9. Man in the Yellow Hat

You know, the man who owns Curious George. Thought so. Still, not a hard costume.

10. Frito Bandito

Well, it’s a new spin on him. Only he’s armed with a snack cart and looks more badass. Hope I didn’t offend anyone here.

11. Mousetrap

Now this is a very adorable costume with the baby dressed as a mouse. Until you realize what mousetraps actually do to mice.

12. Doritos

Yes, the corn chips that are extra salty and are covered with a cheese that gets all over you. Still, these are great.

13. Corpse Bride

She’s from a Tim Burton movie. She kidnaps an unsuspecting man into the netherworld just before he’s about to tie the knot with another girl. You read that right.

14. Andy Warhol and Pop Art Painting

Had to do this one since Andy Warhol is a native of Pittsburgh. But the painting of pink Marilyn Monroe is awesome.

15. Inflatable Tube Guys

You know those inflatable guys you see at car dealerships? Yeah, there’s a Halloween costume for that. These are brilliant.

16. Barbie Makeup Head

Remember having one of these as a kid. Still, love how she has a makeup set on the table and perfect blond hair.

17. BLT

The parents are the bread slices while the kids are bacon, lettuce, ant tomato. I guess one the parents picked the theme that year.

18. Dr. Evil and Mini Me

“I shall call him Mini Me.” Still, seems like a fairly easy costume. But I doubt this Mini Me is old enough for Austin Powers to understand.

19. Willy Wonka and Oompah Loompah

You know from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Still, Gene Wilder, you will be missed.

20. Pencil

Well, her top is sharp. But she doesn’t seem to have an eraser. Still, it’s a great costume.

21. Silent Film Stars

One is Charlie Chaplin in a business suit and the other is a 1920s flapper. Will probably be out of style with the presence of the Jazz Singer costume.

22. Trophies

See one excelled in baseball and the other in tennis. Still, love how they’re posing like that.

23. Pin Cushion

Yes, she has two pins in her and she knows how to use them. Like how she’s dressed like the traditional tomato.

24. Mr. Clean

Yes, one of the most famous cleaning product mascots ever. Still, this is clever and doesn’t take a lot of work.

25. Castaway

The guy’s the Tom Hanks character with a FedEx box. The woman is the volleyball Wilson.

26. Gray Scale

You see how they’re dressed in their finest attire while in black and white. It’s one of those pun costumes.

27. Lego Family

So I guess this family decided to go as a Lego version of themselves. Makes sense, to a point.

28. Scarecrow

Remember to use yarn as straw, especially if it’s for a little kid. Still, this is so cute.

29. Whac-A-Me

Must be a tribute to Whac-A-Mole. Not sure if it’s kind of sadistic. But I think it’s a creative spin.

Yes, he goes around stealing people’s identities from time to time. As you can see from this shirt.

You know the girl from Labyrinth who’s trying to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King? Well, here’s her iconic dress costume.

He’s from a cartoon. And yes, he has hands coming from his hat. Got to love this.

33. T-Rex Prisoner

Must be inspired from Jurassic Park. At any rate, it’s pretty clever if you really think about it.

Guess the family who robs together stays together. Not sure if they’re setting a bad example to their kid. But it works.

She’s feeling a wall that’s not even there. I don’t think you can ask her about it either.

36. Forrest Gump

He even has that beard after running for all that time. Then again, he just felt like running.

37. Shark Attack

You have to admire the dad who agreed to play the victim. Still, the sharks are hard to resist.

He even has the beard, tattoo, and everything. This is too much.

She’s the teacher from The Magic School Bus. A kind of teacher who’d risk her students’ lives to instruct them about science.

If you saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you’ll understand why she has the coconut shells. “I am Arthur, King of the Britons.”

No, this isn’t Balloon Boy. This is just a kid dressed as a hot air balloon. And it’s adorable.

You know, those things you use to take a shower with. They also have body wash and rubber duckies.

Well, that’s a close likeness of him. Too bad he’s not the bandage ear portrait.

Well, this boy is causing a storm. Like how they used figures as the debris.

The Creepy, Crawly World of Scary Halloween Craft Projects (Second Edition)

Of course, Halloween is a very popular holiday which people really get into. You can see this by how so many stores sell Halloween decorations around this time in October. But there are so many who like to make their own as I’ve seen on Pinterest. Last year, I did a post on Halloween crafts which people have done. And I got so many photos from Pinterest that I couldn’t possibly have used them all. I mean there are so many ideas people do for a holiday that’s only surpassed by Christmas in terms of popularity. Well, even that’s kind of contested. Nevertheless, if you plan to throw a spooky Halloween party or just like to scare people on your lawn, then you’re in luck. Because I plan to show you more craft ideas that you might want to see. So feel free to look if you dare.

Ever get the feeling you’re being watched?

Relax, someone probably darkened the portrait and put it into a blackened old style frame. It’s kind of suited for a haunted house.

2. Did that cauldron just get legs?

Guess it must be under a spell. Or someone’s DIY Halloween decoration. The latter is more likely. Either way, it’s brilliant.

3. Grace your front door this Halloween with a raven grapevine wreath like this.

Or crow wreath if you want to get specific. Still, best if the wreath and the birds match in color.

4. Use this mummy doll on your door of you don’t want any disturbance.

Well, that’s more cute than scary. Still, if it’s a mummy, then why does it have a tie on? And does this make the mummy a daddy?

5. No Halloween dish table is complete if it’s not made from bones.

Actually, it’s made from paper mache. But it almost looks real doesn’t it? Might want to discuss this with the neighbors.

Just come on down to toot and come in. And don’t mind the walking bandaged people.

7. A Halloween bauble wreath always has to be black and orange.

This one has it in stripes and beads. Not sure if black and orange go together like that though.

And what shiny pumpkins they are, too. Still, though I like the fuzziness, I’m not sure if I’d want to clean up after it.

9. Eeek! There’s a giant spider on that wreath.

Actually that’s part of the decoration since it’s for Halloween. But try explaining that to an arachnaphobe.

10. For an easy Halloween decoration, try using doilies on unused black picture frames.

Because doilies make great spider webs. Also might make you seem rather eccentric.

11. Mason jars are great for storing crows, spiders, and other creepers.

Well, these are terrariums. But these consist of a crow, a white preying mantis, and some white spiders.

12. A giant spider in the front yard is great for freaking out the neighbors.

Before setting it up, explain to the neighbors that it’s not a real spider and won’t hurt anyone. Though they might be scared of it anyway.

13. A terrarium grave yard is a decoration worth dying for.

Almost gives an impression of a mini cemetery. Like the use of old tombstones.

14. Grace your Halloween table with an eyeball bouquet.

Because these are surely eye catching aren’t they? Also, you can use these every year.

15. Hang this wreath at your door to tell guests to beware.

And there’s nothing like a skeleton in a top hat to enforce that measure. Still, I think this is great.

16. A crow’s feather wreath really makes an impression.

Now that’s very classy. Love the feathers on this one. Great for any front door.

Love the names of these places. Not sure if I’d want to go to any of them though. Brilliant.

Well, this is a more cute Halloween decoration. But I really like the festive colors on this that I had to put it on.

Gives you an impression of a home being haunted doesn’t it? Hope the candles keep the room lit up.

Yes, it’s a wreath featuring a skull and bones. But it certainly looks quite scary if you ask me.

No, you didn’t see a ghost. That’s just someone’s Halloween decoration. Know the difference.

And yes, that does seem like a wreath you’d see on a haunted house. It looks quite tattered with skulls on it. Love it.

Not much you need to make either of these. As long as you keep them under wraps and their arms crossed, you’re good to go.

No, Mr. Bones, that’s stalking. And I believe it’s a crime. These people boarded up their windows for a reason.

You might want to use a craft pumpkin before you proceed with this. Just so you know. But yes, it’s kind of creepy.

31. Who can ever resist a Halloween pumpkin full of kittens?

Even better they’re made from smaller pumpkins. You see, not all the Halloween decorations here have to be scary.

32. For your Halloween party, serve drinks to your guests with a head on a platter.

Now that’s a classy way to serve drinks on Halloween. Helps that it’s red wine to give the impression of blood.

33. Got old wine bottles? Make jack-o-lanterns out of them.

And you can make them any face you want. Not sure if they light up though. But I like them.

34. How about lending a hand with the lights?

You see how they have detached hands with the lights. Sure it’s creepy but it’s pure Halloween gold.

35. Seems like we might have a cold case on our hands.

And I don’t think I’m far off the mark. This guy seems dead and buried for awhile at this point.

To be fair, I put up an eyeball wreath last year. But this one is a different design and has bloodshot ones on as well.

Since there’s all eyes on it. Also really like the colors, too. But it’s really in the eyes.

38. Some witches aren’t always careful with cauldrons in case you don’t know.

These are great for cursing unruly trick or treators. Actually, they’re only good for decoration.

40. Well, this wreath seems to be webbed with spiders all over it.

Another wreath to freak out arachnaphobes. Too bad the purple spider hogs the web from the black ones.

41. Light up your living room this Halloween with this haunted candle display.

Don’t worry, the candles are fake and are available at a craft store. But you have to like how they’re covered in lace along with the skull center.

42. Welcome flying witches with this one-of-a-kind broom traffic cone.

Odd, I’d expect it to be orange so it could be easy to see. Anyway, I do like how it’s shaped like a witch hat and the broom on top.

43. Didn’t know skeletons could drink each other under the table.

So if a skeleton runs a tab on beer, who pays for it? And where does the booze go? These are serious questions, people!

44. Okay, might want to beware of the biohazard zombie.

Don’t want to know what’s on him. And I really don’t want to be near him. Great way to keep people off your lawn.

Please don’t say any of these animals and parts are real. And by the way, I bet the brain’s from Abby Normal.

Of course, you can store your brooms anywhere like in a closet. But be sure yours has your name on it.

Or he just wants to peek into the outside world. I mean he might want to see how things changed since 1794.

Yes, that’s pretty freaky, all right. But I posted one with bones from last year. So to me, it’s rather tame.

The wreath is from yarn and the scene from felt. Not too scary, but fine for families with kids.

50. Apparently, some sicko must’ve attacked these two joggers not too long ago.

Actually, these are just really sick Halloween decorations of two hung corpses spilling their guts out. I know people might think it’s too much. But at least they’re not hanging to a tree by the neck.

51. This spider wreath at night comes all lit.

And yet another wreath to scare the bejesus out of arachnaphobes. Doesn’t hurt if the spiders are lighted up purple, too.

52. Wine bottles make great candle holders and potion bottles.

I guess potion bottles aren’t that hard to do. After you paint them, just stick a candle in and you’re done.

53. Who says a witch always has to have a wicker broom?

This one is a black deco mesh. It’s not great for flying or cleaning. But it makes a great prop and decoration.

54. A witch’s hat can always have fancy feathers to match.

Seems like something you’d see from a Dr. Seuss story. But it has such a whimsy quality to it.

55. Have a lot of cheese cloths lying around? Trying making a ghost.

Yes, that certainly looks like a ghost all right. Wonder if it lights up at night. Or does it matter?

56. You can’t go wrong having spiders around the house.

Guess whoever owns this house isn’t afraid of spiders. Or heights, now that I think about it.

57. This witch hat can use a few spiders and skulls on it.

Now this is a kind of wreath a witch would want. Doesn’t hurt that it has some flowers.

58. Hope you’re not scared of this large spider wreath.

Though I suspect some of you will be. Still, I wonder if the eyes and mouth glow in the dark. Probably.

59. Sometimes it helps if you hang the hats from the ceiling.

Gives an impression of invisible witches in our midst. And it’s very simple to do.

60. Nothing makes a house more haunted than black lighted curtains.

Well, the lights are purple. But ti certainly gives a scary impression. Goes well with the lit spider wreath.

61. Hope these moon coffins don’t give you bumps in the night.

These are more like dioramas with haunted night scenes. But I really think they’re quite original.

62. Instead of carving a pumpkin, why not cover one in lace.

Might want to go with a craft pumpkin if you want it to last. But I really like the black ribbon and lace on this.

This consists of 3 pumpkins and 8 twigs for each leg. Oh, and eyes. Makes a great lawn decoration.

64. For neighborhoods with trick or treaters, this is the sign for you.

Helps it has footprints for ghosts and Frankenstein monsters. Adorable.

This one has feathers, ribbons, and flowers on it. Great for any witch on the town.

Said to be made from a pool noodle and a black lace stocking. Love the flower.

Just remember to make this from a craft pumpkin. And only use the bottom. Still, the smile is eerie.

Yes, these Halloween decorations can be quite morbid. This is especially when you put a skeleton in a wheelbarrow with dirt. Still, it’s gravely clever.

However, the fact he could get up is scary enough. Also, the fact he’s a mummy.

74. I don’t think having extra boards on that coffin does the trick.

Because the body’s still trying to get out. And I think they might need a better box.

75. A black streamer crow wreath is great for any front door.

Though you might have to worry about rain in some areas. Perhaps it’s best to keep it inside or on a wall.

76. Want to kill some sparkly vampires? Take a stake.

While many Muppet fans prefer to buy their own merchandise, there are plenty of others who’d rather make their own. After all, the Muppets does have a lot of cute characters as well as cater to all ages. I mean many of these crafts are made for kids like knitted stuff toys and such. Some of them can even be decorations for parties. Of course, this crafty cover of Miss Piggy with pruning shears is a parody of Martha Stewart Living magazine. And you see how she has a shrub into a dollar sign. Yeah, you don’t see a lot of crafting on Muppets unless it pertains to creating lab concoction disasters, anything the blows up, or just to create a moment of slapstick. Because they usually aim toward comedy. Yet, I have found a lot of craft projects on Pinterest and Etsy as well as Google Images. Like I have for a lot of craft projects from several different franchises. So here I give you a treasure trove of Muppet crafts you might want make for yourself and treasure forever.

Any child would have hours of fun with these Sesame Street blocks.

The Nesting World of Matryoshka Dolls

One of the more popular dolls around the world are Russian matryoshka dolls which is a set of wooden dolls that have one doll inside another and so on and so forth. The name “matryoshka” meaning “little matron” and is a diminutive form of the Russian girls’ name “Matryona” or “Matriosha.” Outside Russia, these are known as nesting dolls. Anyway, the original nesting doll set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Petrovich Zvyozdochkin and designed by folk crafts painter Sergey Vasilyevich Malyutin in Abramstevo. These men were inspired by a doll from Japan’s Honsu which may have been a hollow daruma doll of a Buddhist monk or a Seven Lucky Gods nesting doll. So it’s possible the popular doll sets associated with Russian arts and crafts could’ve had roots in Japan.Traditionally, the outer layer is a woman in Russian peasant garb but the figures inside can be of either gender. The smallest, innermost doll is usually a baby carved from a single piece of wood. A lot of the artistry is used in the painting of each doll which can be very elaborate. And each nesting doll set often follows a theme which can range from fairy tale characters, holiday decorations, and even Soviet leaders. For instance, my family has a nesting doll set of nutcrackers they sometimes use for Christmas. Today you can see nesting dolls covering just about anything which part of why I’m doing this post. There are even nesting doll sets from craft stores you can paint yourself. So for your reading pleasure, enjoy these unique Russian nesting doll sets.

The Wonderful World of Scarecrows (Second Edition)

As September rolls in, fall will soon be in the air. And when it comes to fall decorations, there’s almost nothing to beat than the scarecrow. Two years ago, I did a scarecrow post which got really popular around this time of year so I decided to do another one. Still, contrary to the name, most scarecrows aren’t really that scary. Besides, using a scarecrow to ward off crows isn’t going to help rid them from your garden. I mean crows are very smart birds and probably know that the figure in your plot is just a guy full of straw. But not always. So they probably won’t be scared of it. Nevertheless, people love them so much that there are even contests for them at fall festivals and even one post can’t show the amount of creativity you might see in these things. Many of these have straw but they don’t always have to. And a lot of them are dressed in old clothes. So for your reading pleasure, I give you another glimpse into the wonderful world of scarecrows.

Look, it’s none other than Gandalf the Straw-Haired.

The wizard beard is a stroke of genius. Also like the flower eyes and carrot nose. But you wonder why they don’t have scarecrows like that in the Shire.

Yes, these scarecrows are definitely hanging there. Guess they have all night party hijinks, too. Figures.

This one has a little purple dress and pink hair. But her crown and wand are twigs.

Well, she’s made with an ironing board. But yes, she seems a bit flat and stiff.

Yes, that’s it. However, do these two seem like they’re getting married? Because Sally is dressed in a nice white dress.

However, that dog is kind of freaky looking to me. So is the vet’s pumpkin head.

Well, a sunflower head, anyway. Still, seems to make everything seem sunny even in patched overalls.

This is from Gulliver’s Travels where the Lilliputains tie him off on the beach and see him as a giant.

He should be out trying to scare crows off. But he’s just taking a snooze. Lazy bum.

Since she has a dress made from corn stalks as well as decked in full fall regalia. Kind of wish she was in an outdoor setting though.

Well, her head consists of wheat. Yet, she’s almost entirely made from straw. Guess she sometimes makes it hay.

She’s just sitting on the bench. Too bad she has straw in her boots. Then again, she’s a scarecrow.

Too bad it doesn’t have a jack o’lantern face yet. Guess it’s too young to get one.

Well, she’s wearing a ladybug dress. But that was what her name was on Pinterest so I’m going with that.

Seems like we come across a tin can lady and her metal dog. Not scary, but adorable for any Tin Man to love.

Well, that’s one way you can reuse an old busted truck. Like the scarecrow pumpkin mechanics the best though.

Then again, it might for some of the crows. But this is a really creative, especially with having the scarecrow being upside down.

Well, they’re Angry Birds as hay bales. Basically consists of spray-paint and straw. Fans will love it.

Looks like these guys are having a good time. Wonder if any of them are wearing helmets.

Yes, these the hay bales of minions from Despicable Me. There are a lot of minion scarecrows out there. This among the most creative.

But I’m not sure if lounging in a swimsuit is ideal for fall weather. Also, her skin seems to be made from burlap.

Yes, it looks quite unusual if you ask me. But you might see a few at a scarecrow festival or two.

Now it’s on to the crafts which I have more enjoyment compiling on this blog than the merchandise. Mostly because the craft projects seem more creative to look at and I don’t have to see a lot of stuff that might make me cringe. Then again, you might’ve noticed why some NFL teams might appear on these posts than others. Well, the map might provide a reason for that. As you see here, some NFL teams might have larger fan bases either due to geography, population shifts, or what not. Geography is usually a dominating factor as seen by the map. But you might notice that some teams tend to have fans well beyond their geographic range. This might be due to some fans moving to different places, the brand of the team, or other mitigating factors. It’s complicated. Nevertheless, it does explain why I’m bound to find so many craft projects inspired by the Dallas Cowboys and barely any relating to the New York Jets on Pinterest. So before the first NFL games of the season, I give you another treasure trove of NFL craft projects that aren’t licensed by the NFL and are probably less expensive to make anyway.

This Denver Broncos apothecary jar is great for storing candy.

Sure the candy may be red. But the colors certainly embody the Broncos’ mile high spirit.

2. This stained glass decanter is just perfect for anyone who supports the Baltimore Ravens.

This is especially when one’s anticipating that their team will have as shitty season as last year like the Ravens did. Still, the design is quite ornate.

3. Light up a room with this Pittsburgh Steeler glass block.

Just an old window glass block with a light bulb in it to spread out the light. Is topped off with a black and gold ribbon.

4. Show the Atlanta Falcons are the pride of Georgia with this wooden pallet.

Though my relatives from Georgia might beg to differ. Still, this is a rather artistic design Falcons fans would love to have.

5. Lounge around outside this season with a San Francisco 49ers lawn chair.

Another wooden masterpiece. Just a lawn chair painted with colors belonging to the 49ers which fans might want to have.

Yes, they’re certainly fitting for a team with a black bird mascot. But this does not mean they’d go well on just about anything.

This is a mostly white and silver one with the trademark navy blue Dallas stars. Quite magnificent if you ask me.

But remember to handle this with care. Because baubles are rather delicate things that can easily break when dropped. Keep that in mind.

Yes, this little guy is made of cloth and donning the black and gold. So adorable.

So I’m down with fan costumes and merchandise. Now it’s on to college sport craft projects. You might’ve noticed that unlike the NFL craft post, I didn’t include a picture of myself. Mostly because I don’t have any college sport craft projects so I decided to go with the college football fan map instead. I figured since college football season is soon to begin next week. And if I decide to go with a craft post during March Madness, I’ll use a basketball one. Anyway, you may not think that sports and crafts go together if you haven’t been on Pinterest or Etsy. Yet, even though more men like sports and women do crafts, understand that there are plenty of female sports fans out there as well a guys who do crafts. Then there are college athletes like famed Penn State football player Rosie Grier who later played for the LA Rams and took up needlepoint as a hobby. If you look on Pinterest, you’ll find a lot more sports team crafts on there than you can imagine. However, when it came to looking for craft projects in college sports, it’s a bit tricky. Along with the merchandise, I had to google names of several different colleges to find them. Because if you just type anything relating to college sports crafts, you’ll just end up finding stuff mostly from Alabama and LSU trust me. So for your reading pleasure, I give you a treasure trove of the unique craft projects of college sports. Most of the craft projects featured will be representative of Division I teams, naturally.

Any Iowa Hawkeye fan would love to drink from this painted wine glass.

Of course, these glasses are never for drinking. But I’m sure Iowa fans would want one anyway.

Purdue is in Indiana. They’re called the Boilermakers because of the railroad system. And their Boilermaker Special mascot is a nice, shiny train.

This was made from old license plates and a shovel. I think it looks better than Alabama’s real mascot.

I’ve put a lot of these in various craft posts. But this seems to only require a flower pot and a fish bowl as far as I’m concerned.

It’s a pillow of the state of Iowa. And I guess the heart is where the University of Iowa is. Makes sense.

This uses yarn and houndsooth ribbon as well as an “A” and flowers. Any Tide fan would want to roll with it.

Yes, it’s a University of Texas decomesh wreath. No, I don’t like the colors. But at least a Longhorn fan might enjoy it.

It’s a knitted Spartan hat. May not protect you in battle against the Persians. But will keep you warm in Michigan weather.

Well, this is lovely. Love the ribbon and blue flowers. Gives a nice homey feel.

If it wasn’t for the darker red and the logo, I would’ve thought it was a Crimson Tide wreath. And yes, their team is called the Gamecocks. I did not make that up.

Sure it’s not as fancy as the Iowa wine glass. But it does have a certain charm to it. Like the ribbon.

This is made of wood and has stripes on a panel. Yes, this is a Christian symbol but I’ll allow it since it’s a work of art.

This lamp post might have blue arrows leading to where you need to go. Is quite quaint on any lawn. Love it.

For a team with a rather intimidating mascot, this is a very beautiful wreath. I’m sure any fan would enjoy this in their home.

Championship Worthy Olympic Craft Projects

While some wish to put their Olympic spirit on their food, others tend to put it to more long lasting purposes. For me, gathering pictures of Olympic craft projects was quite of a challenge for me because most of craft results I found were for children. And as you’ve seen in my craft posts, I don’t do a lot of kids’ stuff. This is mostly because most craft projects are aimed for children which include paper, glue, and other simple materials. But these aren’t really built to last other than as something you can put on your refrigerator. However, I do think a paper plate Olympic rings makes for a great opening image. Nevertheless, on my epic journey to find some viable Olympic craft images, I had to type in so many different search terms like “Olympic quilts,” “Olympic crochets,” “Olympic amigurumi,” “Olympic DIY,” “Olympic flower pots,” and “Olympic wine glasses.” Didn’t help that some of the Team USA ones bore some resemblance to my 4th of July craft projects either. So for your Olympic reading pleasure, I now give you an Olympic treasure trove of the Olympic crafts I found.

How about have your Olympic rings taped?

Each ring consists of one role of different color electrical tape. Save the black one, because electrical tape normally appears in that color.

2. Rings on an Olympic scarf all interlock.

Yes, this is a crocheted Olympic scarf. Not sure if it’ll keep you warm. But it’s pretty cool.

3. Guess these metal rings go on your door to support Team USA.

I think this might be bought. Nevertheless, I think this is for the London 2012 Games.

4. For Winter Olympic decorations, you can’t do better than this wreath.

This one supports Team USA, too. However, this year’s Olympics is more based on the summer stuff and will take place in Rio.

5. This crocheted Olympic blanket and pillow also make for a great throw.

However, why these are on display near a pool, I don’t have the slightest idea. Still, like how they match.

6. How about a knitted buddy of Dick Fosbury?

Dick Fosbury was a high jumper who came up with the Fosbury Flop in the 1970s. It was said to bring a shock to the major high jumpers everywhere at the time.

7. Support Team USA by hanging a wreath like this at your door.

Notice that I posted one saying “Team USA” instead of a conventional USA wreath. That’s because Team USA is an Olympic team while conventional USA decor can also be used for the 4th of July.

8. There’s nothing lovelier than a necklace of Olympic rings.

Well, this seems quite simple to make. Well, once you have the rings of 5 different colors, no less.

9. In the Winter Games show your Team USA spirit with this Olympic knitted beanie.

Not sure if this is an Olympic craft project. But it’s more suited for winter than summer. Unless you live in the polar regions.

10. May you make your own Olympic flame that shines just as bright.

I think this one might use a flashlight. At any rate, the effect is almost the same. Just not with real fire.

11. It may not be real gold, but this amigurumi medal will bring you joy.

Sure it’s promoted as a PDF pattern in this photo. But it’s so cute nonetheless.

12. Carl Lewis has just become a lot more woolier.

Carl Lewis was an Olympic and World Championship track star who won 10 Olympic medals and 10 World Championship medals in his career. Also set some world records.The IAAF voted him as “World Athlete of the Century.”

13. For any Olympic party, may I present to you the perfect centerpiece.

Features Olympic rings and a light up torch. Also has stars on the bottom. Love it.

14. Now here is a great Olympic tribute to the late Jesse Owens.

Jesse Owens was a 4 time Olympic medalist in the 1930s as well as set 3 World Records. At the Berlin Olympics in 1936, he’s best known for “single-handedly crush[ing] Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy,” which pissed off Hitler. Recognized in his lifetime as “perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history.”

15. This Olympic quilt sure has an international presence.

Because this has flags from so many different country. Whoever made this certainly worked their ass off.

16. I’m sure Olympic rings will look great when wrapped in cloth.

I guess this is for a party. Like how they had these rings interlock like the rings you see on the Olympic flag.

17. Florence Griffith Joyner is now available in yarn.

Florence Griffth Joyner was an American track athlete who’s consider the fastest woman of all time. Died of a seizure in her sleep at 38.

18. Here we come to a paper Olympic stadium.

This was made by a class at some school. But it’s nevertheless incredible to see.

19. This Olympic wreath is made of pom poms and has an American flag hanging.

This looks quite inventive. Bet this is to show support for Team USA no doubt.

20. For a large Olympic flag, use hula hoops for rings.

Man, this is a large flag. Not sure if the hula hoops work but it’s quite inventive.

This was also made by the same group of students who did the stadium. And here they’re presenting medals.

22. For a more rustic Olympics, this grapevine ring wreath is just for you.

Never seen a wreath like this before. Then again, this could be hung at a shop somewhere.

23. How about an Olympic wreath at your front door?

This is a yarn Olympic wreath. Each ring is wrapped in a different color. And they’re all held up by a single string.

24. When it comes to storing candy for champions, these Olympic jars are just the ticket.

Hope the black one contains chocolate. Still, like how each jar lid has a ring on it.

25. Before Michael Phelps, there was Mark Spitz. Here he is in wool.

Mark Spitz was an Olympic swimmer who held 7 world records and won 9 gold medals in his career. Also sported a porn stache in the 1970s.

26. From the 2008 Beijing Olympics, here we have their mascots in amigurumi.

These are the fuwa. Their names are Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini. These translate to “Beijing welcomes you.” Too bad, they didn’t have one representing air pollution.

27. This Winter Olympic quilt will have you reach for the stars.

Because this one features only Winter Olympic events. Still, I’m going to include it though. Because I’m covering stuff from both.

28. This crocheted Olympic beanie makes any kid look like a champion.

Maybe not. But it certainly looks adorable. However, since it’s July in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s not seen as seasonally appropriate.

29. This Olympic necklace only uses a few simple beads.

Now this is a rather interesting twist. Like how this has beads you can find at a craft store.

30. Sometimes it’s best to stay with simplicity.

Guess this one didn’t take long to make and supports Team USA. Like the red, white, and blue ribbon as well as the hanging rings.

31. There’s no trendier hat in the Olympics than one made of felt.

This is probably from a winter Olympics, most likely Toronto’s. Still, I’d wear it if I could.

Hey, I didn’t say that I was only going to show Team USA stuff. But there are some Olympic teams that do have mascots like Canada. However, I’ll get to the mascots in another post.

33. Man, this torch is surely golden when nailed to a wall.

Well, that’s one way of making an Olympic flame. Quite ornate to say the least.

34. Those supporting Team USA might opt for a more star spangled treatment.

If this wreath didn’t have Olympic rings on it, it would’ve been just an American Flag wreath. With rings, it’s one for Team USA.

35. This amigurumi skier excels at cross country.

I think this was made for an Olympic contest. Skier also tends to resemble a snowball. But it’s cute.

36. Ever heard of a torch rabbit before?

Of course, rabbits don’t run with torches. But this is quite adorable. Like the sad eyes.

37. These Olympic rings were made in a patchwork effort.

You see how each of the rings were made from different cloth strips. Made for the London Olympics as indicated.

They’re probably bike wheels without tires. But each is painted a different color and hung to a wall.

Not sure if the rings are made from metal. Not sure if I’d want this hanging over a garage either. Yet, it casts a nice shadow.

40. With black duct tape and pool noodles, you can make a really nifty Olympic game.

So the object is throwing the pool noodle through these rings. Made for parties.

41. Instead of Olympic rings, how about Olympic rosettes?

At least they’re easier than rings. And look nice on headbands.

42. From Australia, is sprinter Cathy Freeman in knitted form.

Cathy Freeman was an Australian Olympic sprinter and said to be the 6th fastest woman in the world. She’s also one of the most famous people of Australian aboriginal descent. Lit the Olympic flame at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

43. These Olympic rings can very well stand alone.

Yes, I showed an Olympic yarn wreath before. But this one is standing and the rings don’t overlap.

44. From the former Soviet Union hails Belarussian gymnast Olga Korbut in knit.

Called “Sparrow from Minsk,” Olga Korbut won 4 Olympic gold medals in the 1970s. Her specialty was the “Korbut flip.” Defected to the US due to Chernobyl (for obvious reasons).

45. These amigurumi rings are in a great crocheted form.

I’m sure this isn’t easy to make. But they all seem to look happy together regardless.

46. In my opinion, these Russian nesting judges are all perfect 10s.

I guess these were made for the Winter Games in 2014 for Sochi. Nevertheless, these are so adorable and it’s a clever design.

This one has the London Olympic logo in a Union Jack pattern. So creative.

Okay, that might be a joke. But olive wreaths were given to Olympic victors in ancient Greece. So it’s an Olympic symbol.

49. Large Olympic rings are always great to hang from your porch.

Assuming your porch has a roof of some sort. Still, I’m sure it’s bound to stand out.

I guess these feature both Summer and Winter Olympic events. Yet, like how it looks great on that wall.

This one was most likely made for the Sochi Olympics. But it can be used for either summer or winter.

Nadia Comaneci was a Romanian Olympic gymnast during the 1970s who won 3 gold medals. First to be awarded a perfect score of 10. Later famously defected to the US in the 1980s.

Jamaican Usain Bolt is said to be the fastest man in the world. Has won 6 Olympic gold medals and 11 World championships.

63. From Britain are knitted figures of Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett.

Sebastian Coe was an Olympic track and field athlete who has won 4 Olympic medals and set 11 world records in the 1980s. Now a British politician and lord. Served as chairman for the London 2012 Games.

64. From Sweden is heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft in knit.

Carolina Kluft was a Swedish Athlete who won the heptathlon in the 2004 Olympics. She’s the only athlete to win 3 world titles in the sport.

65. Here we have a view of the Olympic rainbow and rings in yarn.

Now that’s pretty amazing. Probably made by someone with too much time on their hands.

66. This adorable Olympic bear will melt your heart.

Or is it a pig due to its snout and short ears? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. But it’s so cute.

Of course, it’s hung in a reverse position. But I think it’s unique to put on this post.

Celebrate the Stars and Stripes Forever with These Star Spangled 4th of July Craft Projects

When it comes to 4th of July, some Americans take the holiday more seriously and go all out than others. For instance, my family hardly does anything special on the 4th other than watch fireworks outside at night. Yet, there are communities that stage 4th of July parades as well as have 4th of July picnics. Then there are residents that have 4th of July picnics or barbecues as well. Yet, on 4th of July, there are plenty of Americans who decorate their homes in a patriotic flair like this one shown above. Families like mine don’t do this. But plenty do since 4th of July decorations are now on sale at stores during this time, especially American flags. Yet, for some people, 4th of July decorations like these don’t seem unique enough for there taste. So these people make their own in order to celebrate the holiday. And yes, you can find plenty of 4th of July crafts on Pinterest and Etsy, too. Many of these DIY decorations are clad in red, white, and blue as well as may contain an American flag. So for your reading pleasure, I bring you to the star spangled world of unforgettable 4th of July craft projects.

An American flag quilting square is well suited for any wall.

And it looks quite fine for over a table. Like the star part on it. Yes, it’s cool.

2. Plants are sure to thrive in this star spangled planter.

This consists of 2 flower pots. The smaller is of stripes. The larger is blue with white stars.

3. These wooden firecrackers will surely bring a bang to your decor.

Sure they may not explode. But they are clad like the American flag and are great for either indoors or outdoors.

4. A red, white, and blue wooden chair looks great with a Betsy Ross star design.

And you can sit your ass on there whenever you’d like on the 4th of July. Still, remember Betsy Ross didn’t design the first American flag. Honest she didn’t.

Just note that making anything with an American flag pattern takes a lot of time and precision. Because the flag itself has a lot of small details to account for like stars for instance.

On houses, doors and windows are fixtures that you use to get in and out of or look out of without fear of the weather. You see these features on every house. However, houses don’t always last and these fixtures might be seen on a secondhand store or a junkyard. Sometimes they’re recycled and put into new houses or to replace the doors and window that somehow got lost in a disaster or wore out. Yet, sometimes you’ll find people using old doors and windows for other projects whether it be for new furniture, gardening fixtures, or decorations like you’d see on Pinterest. Because after all, there’s always something to do with doors and windows whether it be as a DIY project or not. So for your reading pleasure, I give you the repurposed project of doors and windows.

Old screen doors are said to make great room dividers.

And I guess this one took 3 of them. Not sure about the aesthetics but it seems to work.

2. An old screen door can also make a great garden gate.

Well, that seems more fitting for a screen door if you get a high enough fence. Love the foliage on here, too.

3. For a small greenhouse for your plants, stick with some window panes.

Well, that seems simple enough. Not sure if I want to put it outside during the fall or winter though.
