Frosty the Snowman and His Friends (Second Edition)

Since snow has now come to my area with freezing temperatures, I thought it wouldn’t be more appropriate than to do some second edition posts on snowy creations. After all, though it might be the holiday season, the snow and ice will be with us for awhile. And next month, the US will say goodbye to President Barack Obama and make way for a series of unfortunate events. Besides, winter stuff is kind of expected in December since it’s the Christmas season. Anyway, though it might not be appropriate weather to build a snowman where I live, that’s not to mean they don’t pose a significance during the winter. After all, seeing one at a lawn will put a smile on your face. But as I know from two years ago, there are plenty of people who build snowmen with their own unique spin. And for your reading pleasure today, I give you another treasure trove of Frosty’s friends guaranteed to melt your heart. Because there are some things worth melting for as Olaf would say in Frozen.

Funny how I found this one up a tree.

What’s he hiding from? What’s he doing up there? And when will he get down?

2. This guy seems like a real square when you see him.

Since he’s made from snow blocks. But over time he’ll get a bit round around the edges before eventually melting into a puddle.

3. This snowman just wants to enjoy a day at the park with the kid.

You have to like how they put the snow kid in the little swing seat. That’s so adorable.

4. This woman decided to build a snowman to honor her special friend.

Unfortunately, her special four legged friend doesn’t seem too amused by her snow dog creation. Still, it’s a work of genius.

5. You can never pile enough snowballs to make a snowman.

This is supposed to be the Cat in the Hat from Dr. Seuss. However, I tend to think otherwise despite the goofy Seuss hat.

6. Seems like this snow sheik has taken to some destructive habit.

Yes, he’s taken to hookah all right, which is a kind of tobacco smoking. And yes, it’s bad for you. But stereotypes aside, this is hilarious.

7. This snow couple knows how to get the job done.

This may be seen as a cute snow couple. But I like how the snow lady wears her dress and carries a rolling pin. And how the snowman wears a pot for on his head.

8. This military snowman knows how to lock and load.

If this guy wasn’t dressed as a soldier, I’d feel very uncomfortable. Because I don’t see assault rifles as a civilian weapon at all.

9. This cowpoke doesn’t mind being snowed in.

In fact, he kind of prefers it in the pasture. Still, love how he has cowboy boots. This is great.

10. What you mean a snowman can’t breathe fire?

Now that is something I need to see. Because we all know what happens to snowmen near flames.

11. Who wants to ride in a wheelbarrow?

Sure it might require stuff from your garden shed like a wheelbarrow. But I have to admit this is adorable.

12. The Mexican bandito snowman has come from south of the border.

I know this may offend some people like the “stinkin’ badges” part of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. But c’mon, you can’t blame him from getting out of a place with winters above freezing.

13. Nothing beats a day at the patio.

Okay, they’re drinking under an umbrella and the woman’s wearing a bra. Still, I think it’s quite amusing if you ask me.

14. This snowman would like to know what life is from the inside.

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to experience it. Since he’d melt as soon as he came in.

15. Guess this snowman doesn’t like what he sees from the window.

Yeah, I think it’s sometimes unwise to pry into people’s privacy. This guy learned the hard way.

16. This punk snowman is just chillin.’

Not sure what he’s listening to. But I’m sure he doesn’t have the new iPhone that doesn’t have a headphone jack. This is clever.

17. “Four snows and seven years ago…”

However, don’t expect snow Lincoln to emancipate you from any snowstorms this year. Still, this is a great likeness.

18. Seems like this guy’s going through a brain freeze.

Then again, he probably has other worries like wondering about the melting point. Still, like how he sits on the bench.

19. Oddly, Homer seems to enjoy the winter.

Actually this is a snowman Homer Simpson so it’s no wonder. But it really resembles him.

20. Looks like Halo is waiting to take action in his winter of his discontent.

This is from a popular video game series which I’m not familiar with. But I’m sure readers would enjoy this.

21. This snowman really has it on the ball this time.

Now I’m no fan of golf and I’m sure this guy was made for a country club. But I do find this display amusing.

22. Bet she can stuff her bra with snowball enhancements.

Yes, I know many might not think it’s appropriate. Still, I hear she’s quite popular with the Polar Bear Club.

23. “Did anyone call for a pizza?”

I’m sure the pizza was used just for the photo as far as I’m concerned. Still, would you take pizza from a snowman?

24. This man always is always fir for the slopes.

Wonder if he’s from Colorado. Then again, I shouldn’t stereotype by his hair and how he likes to ski.

25. Nothing beats an afternoon on the porch.

Another snow couple in swimsuits. The guy seems to recline with a drink in hand.

26. These two snowmen are ready to rock on with their guitars.

Guess they’re really rocking for a blizzard if you know what I mean. Still, this is quite creative.

27. “Help! Help! I’m sinking!”

Well, perhaps snowmen know what it feels to be snowed in. Like how one waves his stick arms in panic.

28. Hold on tight for it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

A snowman has to hitch a ride somehow. Because he can’t be in where there’s seatbelts or he’d melt.

29. Don’t worry, this snow lady will feed the chickens.

And here she is with her bucket in tow. Have to love her pink outfit as well. So cute.

30. “Can someone take me to the North Pole?”

Unfortunately, the North Pole hasn’t been doing well recently due to climate change. And it has taken a great toll on the polar bears.

31. Oh, no, there’s been a hit and run!

Well, I did a hit and run snowman scene before. Still, this is kind of crazy but funny.

32. Introducing you to Sister Frostina.

Well, she’s created by a group of nuns and in a nun’s habit. Who says nuns don’t have their fun?

33. This snowman loves to go on a bowhunting excursion.

Yes, bowhunting is a thing. Just ask my neighbors. Still, I don’t think there’s a lot of hunting during the winter other than for critters.

34. Even snowmen can engage in the occasional frat boy hijinks.

Drinking out of a keg? Yes, plenty party guys do it. But it’s stupid and might cause you to black out drunk.

35. Of course, some snowmen are kinkier than others.

Given the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey, I couldn’t resist this one. But a BDSM snowman might lead to many calls from parents.

36. These snowmen shall not be moved.

You’d think these snowmen would be protesting climate change. Because they’d certainly be affected by it.

37. This snowman always loves to raid ships on the high seas.

Well, the high polar seas, anyway. Because he’d surely melt if he’s closer to the Equator.

38. Oh, my God, they’re coming for us!

Remind me not to buy a home where there’s an Indian burial mound on top of it. Still, this is so creative.

39. Did that thing just eat a kid?

Yes, there are people who do demented snowmen like this. A sure sign that a neighbor has watched too many horror movies.

40. With this snowman, it’s to infinity and beyond.

Now that’s a really good Buzz Lightyear. Hope he knows that he’s a toy snowman and not something else.

Here he’s in with a bike jacket and helmet. Wonder how he puts the pedal to the metal with his snow legs.

Funny how they’re made from the snow that covers the chairs. Doesn’t seem to take much work to do.

Look, a drunken snowman may be funny. But a drunk person passed out like that isn’t. If your see someone like this, you might want to consider calling 911.

44. Seems like that tree really got in his way.

I know this is a sick and twisted way to build a snowman. But somehow it works by having a tree grow out of him.

45. These snow people always stick to the good old ways of their ancestors.

Yes, this is an Amish snow family. Yes, they’re quite plain. But you should see them do a snow barn raising.

46. Seems like this snowman should hit the shade on late night.

Conan O’Brien would be proud of this. Like how they did the flaming red hair.

47. This snow woman always wants to do the hula.

However, she wouldn’t be able to don the grass skirt in Hawaii. Because it doesn’t have snow compatible weather.

This was just made from a mound of snow. Still, he seems to have no worries.

49. “Can you help me get to Florida?”

Uh, I’m not even sure if this guy should even go there. Unless he wants a death wish since Florida isn’t known for snow.

50. Not sure if doing a handstand on a Jeep is a good idea.

Well, I have to admit, it’s a pretty interesting concept. Like the earmuffs and boots.

51. This guy’s just chilling with the morning paper.

Not sure if it’s a great time to read the paper in snowy weather. But to each his own.

52. Guess this one is “Always Look on the Bright Side of Light.”

Because from the sign, this snowman isn’t long for this world. But doesn’t seem to care.

53. I don’t know about you but do snowmen ever get constipated?

This one seems to be from the looks of it. Not sure if I’d like to see it.

Sadly for him, he’ll probably be busted for performance enhancing drugs. You know how body builders are.

55. So is this how a Renaissance artist would build a snowman?

Okay, to be fair, not all of them lived in Italy. But imagine the great Renaissance snow masterpieces that we’ve missed since photography wasn’t invented then.

Getting under a limbo stick is tricky. But it’s especially difficult if you’re made of snow.

57. Not sure what these snow people are thinking about right now.

For interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. Still, love the little ones surrounding them.

58. What’s this poor soul to do in the winter weather?

Seems like he’s a homeless snowman sleeping on a bench. And he has some booze with him.

59. Even snowmen love to have some winter fun to themselves.

And look, they’re playing snow angels. As if they’re frolicking in their own flesh.

60. There’s nothing like a walk with the dog.

Maybe so. But this dog has evergreen branch ears and tail. I know many will love this.

The Holly and Ivy World of Miniature Christmas Gardens

Though the holiday season may be upon us, tis usually not the season for gardening. At least if you live where I do when it’s more likely that your garden will usually have dead stuff that you had to clean out in the fall. I mean winter gardens are usually not much to look at unless you live in the tropics. Then it doesn’t really look right since winter is a time for snow. And snow usually happens at cold temperatures which plants don’t do well in. Anyway, since miniature gardens are usually in containers, this isn’t a problem for people who are into them. In fact, it’s not uncommon for people to decorate their own mini gardens with a holiday touch or make Christmas mini gardens of their own. If you don’t believe me, you can find a lot of places selling miniature garden stuff online. And yes, many of these use fake snow for a more wintry atmosphere. So for your reading pleasure, I give you an assortment of Christmas miniature garden to bring you holiday cheer this season.

The star must always go on top of the tree.

And I see the tree here is resplendently decorated. Love the red bow. The horse wreath is nice, too.

2. A nativity scene in your miniature garden keeps the spirit of the season.

It’s even better if you have a dirt ground and a twig stable. Still, this is lovely.

3. Mini gardens with multiple layers should always look festive.

Love how this garden has angels and a richly decorated archway. Very much in the Christmas spirit of things.

4. Evergreen trees and snow always make a great Christmas landscape.

The tree on this one only has a red star. But you have to like the snowman and the sleigh full of gifts.

5. Sometimes a few holiday decorations is all you need.

This one just includes presents in an urn, a snowman, and a wreath. All in all, it’s holiday simplicity.

The tree in this garden has red lights all over it. And there’s even a tree in the house.

Helps if the bush has red bows, too. Not to mention, the gifts near the tree bring an extra holiday touch.

This one looks quaint. Normally, you couldn’t do this outdoors. But in mini gardens, go right ahead.

There’s even some semblance of a gingerbread house, too. Like the lights on the trees and the tire swing though.

Yes, a lot of this seems to be out of proportion. But that’s how mini gardens are sometimes. Love the wreaths.

Well, it gives it a sweet charm. Though the tree doesn’t look real.

A tree decked in baubles also helps as well. So does having it covered in snow.

This one just has a star on the tree and a red archway with a snowflake. So it didn’t take much.

Well, there’s a snow covered tree here, too. But you have to love the wreaths and the garland.

Well, the angel here has a wreath around its head. The tree is snow covered but looks fake.

Also helps if it includes a peppermint candy patio. Love the tree and lights though.

This one uses decor that’s in a similar style. Yet, Santa seems bigger than this house.

And this is all what this garden has for Christmas decorations. Well, there’s still cotton snow though.

You can even have a wreath on the tool shed. Still, it must be beautiful when it’s lit up at night.

But you might not use as many decorations though. Still, like the red ribbons.

This one even has stars surrounding it. All it needs is snow in my opinion.

This one has a whole village with a train below and lighted garland roof. Not to mention, you have to love the lighted star.

This one has a snowman as well as a bench with gifts. all in all, it’s adorable.

Not sure what I think about the tree. But I do think the shiny holly berries make a nice touch.

However, the Christmas special is a lot weirder than you know. It’s kind of like Lord of the Rings made for kids on acid.

Both tree and shrub seem to have a lot of beads on it. The lights also look pretty.

This one doesn’t use a lot of decorations. But you have to admire the snow on the roof.

Well, the house is certainly in the Christmas spirit. Love the lighted tree.

This one has trees side by side that have lights in each of them. For all I can say, this is beautiful.

This one is surrounded by candy canes and holly berries. Like the gingerbread man.

Like how the house is made to resemble a fairy abode with a petal roof. Of course, it has candy cane decoration as well.

Well, there aren’t a lot of reindeer here but that can be forgiven. Also, not a lot of snow either.

45. Of course, you can always spend Christmas at the beach.

This one has Santa’s hat and boots near a chair. It’s as if Santa has been here.

46. Sometimes a from the archway is all you need.

Well, this one uses a few non-traditional Christmas motifs like a mistletoe lantern and sled. Either way it gives a rustic impression.

47. The presents will be at the wreathed lantern.

This one includes 2 deer which I know wouldn’t be used for Santa’s sleigh. It also has a snowman.

48. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in this fairy village.

You just have to look closer just to get my drift. But it certainly resembles a fairy tale forest.

49. All this miniature garden needs is a few candy canes and lights.

The lights on this one seem to be rather small. Makes me wonder about what bulbs they get if any of them go out.

50. A well decorated Christmas tree always makes the season bright.

This one even has a wooden reindeer. Still, really love the bows and lights.

51. A richly decorated Christmas tree should always have presents below it.

Well, this is just a lonely tree near a road. Still, you can’t hate how it’s decorated or the presents.

52. In a miniature garden, a Christmas tree really has to light up.

And yes, it certainly shines bright at night as you see here. Still, got to love the decorations.

53. A bonsai can easily make a Christmas tree as any evergreen.

This bonsai tree even has a bow and beads around it. And it goes nicely with the red chair.

54. Sometimes all it takes is a Christmas tree with colorful lights.

This one has presents, a tree, Santa, and baubles on a pot. Like the white bench and table though.

55. Sometimes cotton is sufficient for a blanket of snow.

After all, it’s fluffy. Yet, in this garden, it doesn’t seem to cover everything in sight.

56. A gingerbread house must always have a Christmas tree with candy canes nearby.

And it’s an especially colorful gingerbread house, too. The candy cane bench is perfect.

57. Seems like this small garden has a few trees in order.

This one has Santa, two presents, and a candy cane chair. Doesn’t seem like much, but it’ll do.

58. A plain stone house should always have some light decorations.

This one even has a gingerbread house as well as fairies in the snow. So lovely.

59. For a Christmas mini garden you can always go with a single candy cane.

This one also has a few decorations on it as well. But the lone candy cane stands out.

60. Seems like the snow isn’t long for this garden.

Guess they didn’t have a lot of cotton. But you have to admire the snowman on this one. Like the plaid house.

61. Sometimes you can use normal baubles for a Christmas mini garden.

You can also see a Christmas tree with green beads. Love the owl which I think is a hoot.

The arch and bench are covered in tinsel and bows. The arch even has lights.

And the lights seem to be along the fence. Yet, you can see the decorations if you look more closely.

Well, it seems to take a form of an overgrown bush. Like the bow at the top.

There’s not much snow. But the peppermint bench, table, and stools surely bring in the holiday spirit.

This one uses poinsettias that make an ideal Christmas garden addition. And not just miniature ones either.

71. There’s nothing like an angel that shows peace on earth, good will toward men.

This one even has a nice little golden church on a hill. Still, it’s quite lovely with the snowflakes.

Because the snowmen don’t seem to be near any snow. Yet, they seem to exist.

This one seems to have a lot in it. Yet, it seems to become its own winter wonderland.

And yes, a pointsettia is included. Whether it’s real or fake, I can’t decide.

It even has a pink trail as well as purple baubles. Certainly to brighten your season with cheer.

76. Of course, you can always go with a white Christmas tree.

Yet, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of snow in this one. But it has a lot of Christmas decorations that there should be.

77. A Christmas miniature garden like this is a perfect winter wonderland.

Now this is a garden with all the Christmas trimmings. All it needs is a decorated tree and it’s all set.

78. In a winter wonderland like this, you’ll find a tree of gold somewhere.

And here it is within a tower. Bet it’s to protect it from the snowy weather. Love it.

79. You can decorate a miniature Christmas tree with whatever you have at home.

And this one seems to be decorated this way. Nice that it has Santa’s sack and presents.

80. A Christmas miniature garden like this should have a big bushy tree with all the trimmings.

Yeah, it looks similar to some of the previous ones I’ve shown in this post. Yet, it seems more like something you’d put on a Christmas card.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas with These Village Houses (Second Edition)

Last year, I did a post on Christmas villages and houses. Since long ago, so many people have engaged in this tradition that you’ll find companies selling Christmas houses for the season. Hell, many sell houses for Halloween and Easter villages as well. Nevertheless, this practice can be very expensive as you see in the image above. Yet, there are plenty of people who make their own Christmas village houses as I’ve seen on Pinterest. Sometimes they can be in pastel colors with a vintage look to them. Sometimes this isn’t the case. Yet, since I had a lot of Christmas village house pictures left over, I thought it would be best to use some of them for another post for this year. So for your yuletide reading pleasure, I give you another assortment of Christmas village houses. Hope you enjoy these.

A small cottage always can use some Christmas trees.

This one even has a snowman. Yet, I think the tree on the right stands out more in this display.

2. Sometimes a house always has to have a snowed roof and a wreath.

This one is in blue, red, and white. Doesn’t have as flashy decor as the other one, but it’s quaint.

3. A shiny new bell always helps deck the halls on this church.

Nice that it has Christmas decorations at the base and a red roof. Love this.

4. It doesn’t matter where you stack the Christmas houses on the shelf.

Since it makes a colorful village display anyway. Doesn’t hurt if you have funky colored Christmas trees.

5. A simple white Christmas house can always do with some greenery.

After all, add a garland and wreath and it’s already in the Christmas spirit. Helps if there’s a light from the window.

6. A red house doesn’t need much to deck the halls.

Just snow on the roof, evergreen trees, and a wreath can put it in the Christmas spirit. It’s as simple as that.

7. How about some candy cane trimming?

This one certainly has it around the roof. However, I could easily tell this is made from styrofoam.

8. To make it more Christmasy, use red lights.

It seems to work with this one. Then again, it might have red paper behind the windows to make it look red.

9. A Christmas church always has to have an angel in front of it.

Because a miniature nativity scene may not be possible if it’s DIY. Too many small pieces. Yet, this is lovely.

10. When in doubt, go with glitter.

This one certainly does, and gold glitter, too. Goes well with the decor on this.

11. A blue house can always get one in a winter mood.

This one doesn’t use a lot of decorations either. Well, save for Christmas trees and a reindeer in front.

12. A towering tree display can always use a few houses.

Yes, this is a tall Christmas tree village display. And yes, houses are on each of the snow patches. All in all, it’s probably made by someone with too much time on their hands.

13. White and silver are always great on a fancy house.

Doesn’t hurt that it’s trimmed with glitter and has a porch. Love it.

14. Red and green makes this church a sight to be seen.

This one even has a gold ornament as a bell on the steeple. Like the wreath and trees.

15. A pink house can always use a few extra trimmings.

As you can see, this one has a present, Christmas trees, and a garland with a flower on it. Not sure what to think about the tower.

16. Sometimes some little jingles can go a long way.

This one doesn’t use much decoration. Yet, it’s somewhat in the Christmas spirit in its simplicity.

17. A Christmas house always needs to sparkle.

This one has a glittery roof as well as other Christmas decor. Got to love the white reindeer in the front.

18. Even a Christmas church has to be in the spirit of things.

This one even has gold wreath and trees. Still, like the top beaded cross on this one.

19. A Christmas church always has to have a warm winter glow.

This one has a warm glow through the windows. And it doesn’t use a lot of snow on the roofs.

Deck the Halls with These Christmas Craft Projects (Second Edition)

Last year, I did my first Christmas craft post which was a rather big success that I decided to do one for this year. Mostly because I have a lot of craft pictures saved from Pinterest that I could only put on the post which can only have so many slots. After all, Christmas is perhaps the biggest holiday of the year with people decorating their house to reflect the yuletide cheer. Thus, this leads to plenty of Christmas craft projects to choose from. And I mean plenty ranging from Christmas wreaths, Christmas garlands, Christmas tree ornaments, well, you get the idea. Nevertheless, as the Christmas season kicks off, you’ll start seeing people putting up their decorations. Some will buy them from the store or have already. Some will make their own which might take them quite some time. And some may put out the decorations they made from the previous years. I mean craft projects can last a long time. But unlike on Halloween, they must have their cobwebs dusted off first. So for your reading pleasure, I give you another installment of great Christmas craft projects to provide you inspiration for this holiday season.

Oh, crap, Frosty the Snowman is now turned to slush.

Don’t worry, this is just a Christmas melted snowman decoration. It’s made from cotton and styrofoam. So don’t cry all about it.

Well, this is a nice simple Christmas design. Love the flowers. So pretty.

3. A winter tulle wreath must always have some patches of shiny blue.

This one has a blue bird and blue flower like it’s almost a snow scene. I think it’s quite lovely to put on one’s front door.

Well, this one has 3 wreaths with baubles and decorations galore. Not sure if it’s practical for my house. But I like it.

The Seaside World of Seashells

I know this is more suited for a summer post instead of the middle of November. But I’ve also had this idea for a while. And if I don’t do a post on this before Thanksgiving, it’ll be on my mind until after Christmas. Because I will not have any time to do such a post after next week. Of course, we all should know that a seashell is a hard, protective, outer layer created by an invertebrate sea creature. It’s usually the part of the animal (like its exoskeleton) unless it’s a hermit crab that lives in the most appropriate shell it can find at the moment. Empty seashells are often found on beaches by beachcombers and they’re usually such because the animal has died while the soft parts have been either eaten by another animal or rotted out. Most of the seashells you see on the seashore are those of marine mollusks partly because these shells endure better than others. But other shells found on beaches can be those of barnacles, horseshoe crabs, and brachiopods. Yet, freshwater shells do exist as well as those of freshwater mussels and snails along with land snails. Though such shells aren’t usually very large compared to their ocean counterparts. Anyway, people have used seashells for many different purposes since prehistoric times. Some people have used seashells for money as well as tools, fertilizer, ritual objects, musical instruments, jewelry, and decoration. You can also find seashells on sale at a store. However, just take note the majority of seashells that are offered for commercial sale have often been collected alive in bulk before being killed and cleaned. Such large-scale exploitation can have a strong negative impact on local ecosystems and may significantly reduce the distribution of a rare species. Anyway, in this post, I intend to give you treasure trove of seashell crafts for your reading pleasure. Hope you enjoy these.

The Transparent World of Glass

You may remember when I did my post on stained glass this summer. Yet, I’ve thought about doing a post on glass for a while since I’ve often come across glass related craft projects for my blog. Anyway, glass is basically everywhere in our modern society that we tend to take it for granted since it’s now designated as a recyclable material. But this wasn’t always the case before the Industrial Revolution when glass was so expensive that colonists who traveled to the New World would often take their windows with them on the boat. Today, not only is glass just as prevalent as plastic as well as used in a wide variety of things we take for granted, there are also many different types. The oldest and most familiar types of glass to us are silicate glasses which are mainly derived from silica a main constituent in sand. You have soda lime glass that’s often used in glass bottles and other containers as well as the more durable quartz glass. You may also be familiar with the modern fiberglass which has only been mass produced since the 1930s as well as has so many applications. We can go on. Not mention, before coal and steel, my area of Southwestern Pennsylvania was distinguished on its glass making as well which explains why such towns like Glassport exist. And even when the area became known for its steel and coal industry, its glass industry still lived on well into the 20th century, some even to today with 20 currently operating in the region. One of the earliest is the New Geneva Glass Works that was active from 1797-1847 which had Albert Gallatin as an early investor. Bakewell Glass in Pittsburgh founded in 1808 was known as a pioneer in flint glass in America as well as had a family member invent and patent the first known process of pressed glass in 1825 which made the mass production of glass possible for the first time. F.&J. Mckee Company on Pittsburgh’s South Side founded in 1850 would be associated with Western PA glass for years. The Duncan & Miller Glass Company existed in Washington, PA which spanned from the late 1860s to the 1950s which is distinguished by fine craftsmanship. The Macbeth Evans Glass Company founded and based in Charleroi in 1899 was known for its glassware with beautiful designs, especially in the 1930s. Then there’s PPG Industries started as a pane glass company in the 1880s and was among the first in the world to power its furnaces with local natural gas which stipulated widespread industrial use. In fact, the words PPG stand for “Pittsburgh Plate Glass.” Not to mention, it’s possible that their glass was used as windows in plenty of early skyscrapers. Today PPG is still around as a multi-billion dollar Fortune 500 company that’s diversified to include paints, coatings, specialty materials, chemicals, and even fiberglass, is still headquartered in Pittsburgh at the iconic PPG Place that resembles a cool evil fortress, has 150 manufacturing locations around the world, and they recently received the naming rights from Consol Energy on what’s now the PPG Paints Arena. Also, they still make glass but not just in windows. Anyway, you’ll find a lot of glass crafts on Pinterest since the material is often used in disposable items and other products. Which is where I come in for your reading pleasure.

As you can see, Dia de los Muertos is a huge holiday in Mexico and it should surprise nobody that you’ll find plenty of Day of the Dead decorations through Pinterest and Google Search. Contrary to popular notions, Dia de los Muertos is not Mexico’s Halloween though both holidays do have similar traditions like dressing in costumes, partying, skull decorations, and trick or treating in some regions. Of course, traditions can vary from town to town. Though I have seen it presented this way. Seriously, it’s not. Nevertheless, since Mexicans are among the largest US ethnic groups as well as among the fastest growing that some horrible orange man with straw hair wants to build a wall on the US-Mexican border. So I advise everyone not to vote this fucktard for president and stick with Hillary Clinton regardless of how you feel about her e-mails. Moving on, it’s not uncommon for many Dia de los Muertos decorations to contain skulls otherwise known as calaveras. You know the decorated sugar skulls. They also have bright flowers and other Mexican motifs. So for your reading pleasure, I give you a treasure trove of Day of the Dead craft projects.

The Spooky World of Halloween Pumpkin Dioramas (Second Edition)

Last year, I did a post on Halloween pumpkin dioramas that has caused as much of a sensation on my blog and continues to do so. So I decided to do another post despite having a hard time finding unique pumpkin dioramas like these posted above. And I used all of them in last year’s post. When I discussed the idea of pumpkin dioramas with my mother, she seemed to imagine the pumpkin being part of the display. So she was surprised when she saw the dioramas in the pumpkin whether they come from a pumpkin patch or a craft store. And many of them do have a lot of scary Halloween stuff. But once in a while you might find pumpkin dioramas like these which revolve around polar regions, fairy gardens, and space. Some pumpkin dioramas revolve around Thanksgiving but we’re getting ahead of ourselves. So for your reading pleasure, I give you another treasure trove of these Halloween pumpkin creations.

How about a some campfire music with old friends?

Sure they may not want to get out of their graves at the moment. But the music can go straight to their bones or wake the dead.

2. Things have been a little dead lately in the big house.

And here they are gambling behind bars. Seem to have no bones about it.

Guess somebody hasn’t tended this cemetery in years. As I can tell by the weeds.

Well, this house is a paper cut out. Yet, I do love how they used moss and trees for the scary decor.

It’s also part miniature garden as well with a carved top. Still, like the light.

But I often hear that they’re not a lively bunch. Though they really seem to have a dead good time.

Now this one is quite menacing. Really like how the one skeleton rises out of the ground and the white trees. That kid will surely need therapy.

This one seems to take a view from the sky with paper bats and branches inside. Amazing.

13. Open the door to this pumpkin and you’ll find a haunted house inside.

You’ll also find some pumpkins stacked like a snowman as well as bats on a lite tree. But that’s beside the point.

14. Sometimes people would want their pumpkins to contain the sights of nature.

However, they couldn’t include a scene of deer mating, fighting, getting shot but hunters, or being hit by cars as would you normally see during the fall. So they decided to go with a deer family scene instead.

15. This little pumpkin contains a real graveyard scene.

Well, it doesn’t use much. But you might not want to know who’s buried here. Or who’s decomposing.

16. Enter this graveyard if you dare.

Love how they painted the clouds in this one. Also like the large gate. Really eerie.

17. This barbecue is bound to be a graveyard smash.

“How about we cook ribs on the grill tonight?”
“Whose yours or mine? Cause I don’t have any meat on ’em.”

18. Here we come to Cinderella being let out from her pumpkin coach.

Well, that’s one way to put a pumpkin to good use. Not scary for Halloween, creative enough.

Once again, this also features Cinderella and her castle. Why was I not surprised?

Well, I think the fox touch is a bit clever since wildlife frequent cemeteries all the time. Hope it can get through the night.

I guess the trees might be made from paper. But I love how they create an arch over the road so close together.

Yes. he’s on a bench in his bones on a night like this. Hope he didn’t die waiting for anyone or anything.

Well, you have bats around here, too but they seem more part of the scenery. But they’re the only living creature you’ll find here.

24. Fans of the Wizard of Oz would enjoy this pumpkin diorama of Emerald City.

Of course, I think the flying monkey scenes would’ve been more appropriate. Considering this is Halloween we’re talking about.

25. Using cotton is great for cobwebs and fog.

Well, this seems like a messy craft project made by a school child. Then again, it’s kind of supposed to be.

26. For a fighting mummy scene, an Egyptian scene is necessary.

And it seems these mummies are going at it with each other. Must be in a museum.

27. Seems like these skeletons are having a graveyard smash in the Old West.

Well, it’s kind of hard to make out what’s going on here. But I’m sure the figures are kind of undead.

28. Sometimes a graveyard might need to blend with its surroundings.

After all, having it a plain orange pumpkin doesn’t make it seem any more dead. Also, got to make room for those trees.

29. This skeleton really knows how to make an entrance.

Yes, they really seem to dig a stylish red motorcycle. Then again, it’s not like the moped could kill them since they’re dead already.

30. Ahoy, dead pirates on the high seas.

Seems like they came across some treasure, too. Too bad they may not be able to enjoy it.

31. It always seems a little dead at 1313.

Doesn’t seem like a lively place. Unless you’re a bat. Like the house and trees.

Well, outside broom parking anyway. Inside broom parking space is a closet. Like the spiderweb.

33. This place seems to have become a real ghost town.

Think of it as an Old West town but with skeletons. Why Tim Burton doesn’t make a western movie like this I have no idea.

34. It’s always eerie to see bats flying at the full moon.

Well, bats are kind of creepy if you ask me. Yet, wonder if there’s a pumpkin diorama with a Batman sign.

35. Seems like this pumpkin is under construction.

This one uses Playmobil figures. Must’ve been made for a kid so it would be less scary.

36. Behold the raven overlooking the unburied graves.

Odd, to have the skeletons all black like they’re decomposing. Nice to have a mausoleum, which you don’t see in a lot of grave yard scenes.

37. Now this makes a great cemetery entrance.

I’m sure most cemeteries don’t have skeleton entry archways. So enter if you dare.

38. These pumpkins always make nice abodes for fall fairies.

Both of them even have bats for added Halloween emphasis. Also like the gnomes.

These seem to have a more vintage look to them. Two have trick or treaters. One has a witch.

Seems like that’s an Evil Queen from Snow White in a yellow dress for this purpose. Love the border though.

Well, I said some of these are mini gardens. Not sure if it will be good after October though.

Like the spider web outfit on the skeleton. Very fitting for a haunted fortune teller.

Then again, they could be early risers. Of course, it’s probably too late for me to say that.

44. Those who enjoy Harry Potter will enjoy these pumpkin dioramas.

One depicts Buckbeak at Hagrid’s Hut from the Prisoner of Azkaban. The other has Harry on his broom during a Quidditch match.

45. There’s nothing more adorable than a couple of raccoons.

Yes, these are cute inside your pumpkin. But they can be a terror in your trash bin.

46. Better rest in peace with this spooky town.

Yes, I know you see a lot of graveyard pumpkin dioramas. But it’s Halloween for God’s sake. So graveyard scenes are a thing.

47. Well, hope these ghosts can haunt to it.

This doesn’t seem that hard to do. And will surely not scare people. Like the ghosts.

And the squirrel doesn’t seem to scale which makes it ideal prey for the tiger. Because, that’s nature.

The Haunted World of Halloween Village Houses

Last year, I did a post on the Christmas village houses which has a long tradition. But you might not know that some traditions that were used exclusively for one holiday could be applied to others. For instance, there aren’t just marshmallow peeps for Easter anymore. Still, other than profit margins, the idea of adapting the Christmas villages for Halloween kind of makes sense. After all, Halloween provides a great opportunity for a spooky village with haunted houses and other buildings. Besides, it’s a very popular holiday that people really get into. And yes, the same companies who sell Christmas village houses are also in the Halloween business. You’ll find not just haunted house collectibles, but also shops with Halloween sounding names, scary figures, and even a gazebo made of skeletons. Like their Christmas counterparts, these little Halloween towns can become very elaborate as well as a very expensive holiday hobby. Yet, like the Christmas villages, there are plenty of people who make their own haunted abodes for their miniature haunted neighborhoods in their home. So for your reading pleasure, I give you some Halloween houses and towns.

Feel free to check into the Bates Motel but you can never check out.

Wait until you meet Norman Bates, a clean cut young man who’s a real momma’s boy. Also tends to murder women in showers wearing women’s clothes.

2. A purple glitter house is a ghostly haven.

You may see how the ghosts are coming through the windows. Yet, one of them seems rather welcoming.

3. A haunted village always has to have a deadly backdrop.

You can see how this village has a coffin and tombstone behind it. Yes, someone must’ve had too much time on their hands.

4. Enter 936 if you dare.

This black one even lights up inside. And it even has some glittery spiders on it, too.

5. You’ll never know what’s haunted in this Wonderland.

These houses are a mishmash between Halloween and Alice in Wonderland. Then again, I don’t think Alice in Wonderland needs a Halloween rendition. Wonderland is creepy enough.

6. Not sure if this place is entirely abandoned.

Sure it may be covered in straw and have graves in the yard. But it’s lit from the inside.

7. So if this church is boarded up, why is it lit?

At least with Halloween village houses, you can make them look as decrepit as possible. Because haunted is the thing here.

8. Apparently, like Santa, these ghosts prefer to take the chimney way out.

Uh, aren’t ghosts supposed to be able to go through walls. Then again, chimney is fine.

9. This place is turning into a real ghost town.

After all, it’s full of ghosts who seem to love it hear. Love the purple lights from the buildings.

10. Sure it looks like a normal house, at first.

But notice how it has a black roof, orange from the inside, as well as a spider and skull on it. Very subtle and very spooky.

Notice how it’s lit from the windows. So don’t suppose you’ll be alone in there.

This seems like a haunted neighborhood inspired by Dr. Seuss. The house on the left especially emphasizes my point.

17. Imagine this spooky town on a high shelf.

Makes it seem that this Halloween town is set on a steep mountain. Seems kind of fitting if you look at it another way.

Then again, it might just be a frost. But it’s hardly a place that sleeps.

Well, it somehow seems to be with the banner. Yet, it’s also lit from the inside, too.

20. You might want to beware going near this boarded home.

Did I just see a witch on her broom? That’s not a good sign. Also there’s light coming from a window.

21. A home with a skull sign is a home to avoid.

Well, ain’t that the truth. This is especially show if there’s a bat on the front and a purple tree.

22. Apparently, whoever lives here doesn’t care for visitors.

Another haunted building that seems woefully decrepit. Sure it’s bad for neighbor property values. But it’s great for Halloween.

23. From this home, you might see some bats in the distance.

Sure bats may look scary. But they do eat a lot of good for us like eat pests. Also, there’s Batman.

24. Don’t know why the lights don’t go out at this place.

Then again, it might be a witch’s home she shares with ghosts. Yet, love the windows in this one.

25. As far as this skeletal abode is concerned, there are no bones about it.

Have to appreciate the sight of blood coming from the windows. This person must have a demented imagination.

26. Are you sure you’d want to trick or treat at a place like this?

I don’t know. I think kids might be advised to skip this one. Just have a bad feeling about it.

27. Who said a spooky town doesn’t have a nightlife?

Well, it sure seems to have a lot of great shops and many pedestrians. Like how it’s situated like a hill.

28. Enter this graveyard if you dare.

This was made from paper mache along with other materials. Like the tombstones here.

29. Sometimes a haunted house just needs all the right decorations.

I especially like how it’s situated on a platter like a haunted house on a hill. Also like the tree right beside it.

30. What’s that light coming from the house?

Maybe it’s just a light bulb. Then again, the windows seem to be lined with coffin liner from the inside.

31. For Halloween houses, you might want to have them near a tree of lights.

Each of these is decorated in its own way. There are even orange and black trees in the middle along with moss and rocks.

32. Sometimes all your house needs are cobwebs.

Since they can give the impression of desolation and abandonment. Also like the purple lights.

33. This little place appears slightly bent with the wind.

Well, it seems to be too small to be regular haunted house. Yet, too big to be an outhouse. Maybe it’s just a little cabin or something?

34. Sometimes you might see a haunted house come alive.

Now that does look pretty scary. Sure wouldn’t want to own a home like that.

35. Just because it’s in bright purple doesn’t mean it’s not haunted.

You might want to look at the top window that’s shaped like a skull. Yes, that’s pretty creepy.

36. Sometimes a haunted house just needs to have the right trimmings.

But at least it’s not totally abandoned. Just home to a witch, it turns out.

37. Looks like this place has been left to the bats.

Now this really does seem like an abandoned home you’d see on the road. Just has a very decrepit and unkempt look screaming low property values.

For all I know, it might be a place where teenagers shouldn’t hang out, especially if they’re the token black in the group. If you’re familiar with horror movies, you know where I’m getting at.

39. You might want to skip this place or avoid it entirely.

This has to be done by an artist. But it certainly seems like a house you’d see in a horror movie.

40. Sometimes green and purple is just as good as black and orange.

This home really seems Halloweened out. Has all the scary things like a witch and bats.

41. Seems like a hangout spot you’d find in the Village of the Damned.

Still, this isn’t a safe place for children. But I do love how this person used vintage Halloween kids for effect.

42. Sometimes a tower is a great addition.

Despite that a lot of homes don’t have one. Nor do they have more than 2 stories either.

43. Well, this seems to be a lively haunt in a fireplace.

Granted, it’s a small space. But I do like how it’s lit up and how the backdrop is used as a night sky.

44. Despite the light, everything’s boarded up.

Still, it seems like a glittering home you can see for miles. Like the tree on this, too.

45. Even the moon is disturbed by what’s going on here.

Another Seuss like structure in Halloween colors. The windows seem to tell an interesting story.

46. Nothing makes a Halloween house like a jack-o-lantern.

Sure it might not scare people. But this one has quite a menacing look.

Now this should make some people freak out since arachnophobia isn’t an unusual thing. But in proportion, spiders aren’t usually that big.

From the looks of it, it probably had a small congregation to begin with. The bats like it though.

49. Sometimes you can make great windows with mesh.

Well, they do give a rather creepy vibe on this one. Nevertheless, love how this house is shaped and the shutters.

50. For your potion needs, this is the place for you.

It’s a great place if you’re a witch with time constraints. Though sometimes it might be cheaper to brew your own.

51. There must be a good reason not to enter here.

This one seems like a rather normal house. But add a spider and some black trees and it’s a haunted home.

52. This place needs a lot of work done like repairs and maintenance.

Apparently, nobody has lived at this place for decades. May have a rather shady reputation.

53. Sometimes haunted buildings can come in outlandish colors.

These are certainly no exception. One of them even has green stuff coming from the chimney.

54. This house has really become a real crow’s nest.

It also has an odd shape to it. Well, at least one of the windows does, anyway.

55. Wonder what’s coming from those chimneys.

Now this one looks a bit similar to one of the other houses I just showed. Yet, it seems to be a Christmas cottage turned into a Halloween one. Not to mention, it seems more lively.

56. This ghost welcomes you to his bright orange abode.

Even has a pink roof and an orange tower. Not sure how that could exist in real life beyond Florida though.

57. For a more haunted mantle, branches are a must.

Well, along with the haunted houses. But that’s beside the point. Not sure how these don’t go over the edge.

58. Looks like the witch got stuck in the chimney again.

The green house seems to have a lovely glitter roof and door. Yet, the feet sticking out is quite funny.

59. The windows don’t seem set right on this house.

Well, the top windows, anyway. The shutters seem about to fall off as well. Also, the orange tree is rather freaky.

60. Don’t know why anyone would want to come near this place.

Not sure if that’s a ghost or a trick or treater. If the latter, then they should get out immediately.

61. For a haunted house, this seems to be a happening place.

Not sure if I’d want to send my kids trick or treating at a house with blood coming from the windows. That might be a bad sign.

62. Whoever lives here has an interesting way of decorating.

Seems to have skulls on the porch posts. Not sure if that will freak out the neighbors.

63. I don’t think you’ll like what you’ll discover here.

The walls seem a bit rusty and the wood a bit worn. Also, bats might live here as well.

Nice that it has bloody windows and a coffin door. Yes, it’s in a similar style like one of the earlier houses. But that’s beside the point.

Haven’t seen a ghost yet. Also, that tree might look rather unusual without its leaves.

66. There’s an eerie essence to this interesting house. Or is it a church?

Well, it has a bell tower. Yet, there’s some weird green stuff near the door ways.

67. When there are ghosts and bats, it’s best to keep your distance.

Also helps if you see a skull and crossed bones as well as boards on a window. You may not leave there alive.

68. Nothing good can come from weird shape trees near a black glitter house.

This is especially true when the door is boarded up and there’s a jack-o-lantern. Might want think twice before entering.

69. Wonder what these skeletons are up to.

I’m sure this isn’t up to scale since the skeletons look bigger than the other figures. And they wouldn’t be normally.

70. Well, these ghosts seem rather hospitable.

Don’t mind that the board at the door says, “Do Not Enter.” Then again, you might want to keep that in mind.

71. A haunted village must always have a nice large lake.

Sure it might have dead bodies rising up from there once in a while. But you can say that about a lot of places in a Halloween town.

72. Sometimes a house is haunted when spiders take it over.

And this house seems like a haven for large spiders. Some of whom spin their webs here.

73. I guess this place is home to a witch.

To be honest, I kind of prefer the black glitter to the orange glitter. Bright orange can be worn by Penn DOT workers and shows up at night.

74. I think these trick or treaters might want to skip the house on the hill.

That house on top of the hill seems rather haunted. Maybe it’s best to skip it for their own good.

75. Even a skeleton can enjoy a boat ride once in a while.

This seems like a rather creative display. Reminds me of a little cove where people like to take their boats out.

76. You may not want to know what you can see in these windows.

Once again, someone must’ve used old photos for the entities lurking this house. Love the lace on the roof, too.

77. Seems like someone likes a bit of grave decoration.

I think this is supposed to resemble Jack Skellington’s house from the Nightmare Before Christmas. But I’m not sure.

78. Well, this cottage has a nice pumpkin collection.

I wouldn’t say patch since they’d have to be attached to vine. Love the brick work, too.

79. Sometimes a haunted house needs a few fancy touches.

Well, it sure has plenty of patterns on the roofs. Like the skull doorway. Very classy.

80. When it comes to haunted houses, you can fit some in a unique style.

These are in different patterns as you see here. Love the vampire’s one the best.

81. For a more witchy castle, go with neon green.

Sure it might be a tacky eyesore. But at least a witch will know where her house is.

At this time of year, it can go either way. Still, Love that tree near the house. So Dr. Seuss like.

83. For a more scary village, try a coffin shelf.

Well, that seems to work quite nicely. Hope you have slots to plug in the lights, though.

84. For some haunted houses, sometimes two towers are better than one.

Since you sometimes might want to go with symmetry. Though we’re just talking about roofs here.

85. In more urban places, you might come across this.

Seems like something people might see on their block. Minus the haunted element. But the windows are boarded just the same.

86. Really don’t want to know what’s coming from that door.

I know it’s a mysterious light. But the redness makes it seem so unnatural.

87. Is it really 3 or is the clock stuck there.

It’s probably the latter. Still, I love the wrought iron in this. Very ornate.

88. The tower on this house is covered with cobwebs.

The roof seems rather nice as well. Really captures the haunting mood of the house.

89. This abandoned tower is a hooting home for owls.

Once again, I’m not sure why such structures seem to exist here. They seem to defy all logical explanation.

90. I’m sure this property has been condemned for a long time.

This one seems to have all kinds of things wrong with it. There are cobwebs on the roof and boards on the doors and windows.

91. When it doubt, it helps to start small.

This one has a black cat inside as well as a pumpkin on the chimney. Not sure about the snow though.

92. There’s nothing safe about this silver house.

This is especially so when it seems abandoned and has a skull and crossed bones on it. That can’t be good.

93. You might want to be wary of the green light.

Because it might mean ghosts, something radioactive, or both. Not sure which is worse.

94. Sometimes a witch prefers a black house.

Now that’s more like it. Orange works better as an accent color anyway. Love the wreaths.

95. Enter this small cottage at your own risk.

If you think only mansions are haunted, you might be mistaken. You may never know what’s in a small house.

96. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to add a dash of whimsy.

Sure these homes look more cute than haunted. But a few of them have their share of bats.

97. Sometimes a haunted house doesn’t need to be fancy.

This one mainly has cobwebs on the roof and a few boards. Really sets the mood.

98. I’m sure these skulls will be accommodating.

You can see the vintage imagery on this card. Like the trees on this, too.

99. This might be a simple cottage but you might want to think that over.

Well, it seems rather normal enough. But there’s something about it that seems off for some reason. Don’t know what.

This one is very nicely done. Seems like an abandoned cottage but a face in the chimney can stick with you.

The Little Nightmare World of Miniature Halloween Gardens

When it comes to Halloween and other holidays, there are some post ideas I reuse on an annual basis since I like them and have proven popular. Then there are posts of ideas I want to try out on my own since I think I should come up with a few original concepts during the holidays. This is a combination of two. As I’ve seen on Pinterest, my post on miniature gardens has proven quite popular since I created and published it last year. And there are plenty of miniature garden decorations available for each holiday season. Halloween is one of these times since it’s a highly popular holiday and pretty much the last holiday before retail outlets everywhere get into their Christmas decorations as if Thanksgiving didn’t really exist in between. Well, at least in the United States as far as I’m concerned. Anyway, it’s not unusual to find mini gardens decorated for Halloween. You might find some presented as tiny graveyards or haunted lawns. Some even have it in autumn fashion with pumpkins. But however these gardens are made, I bring some of them to you.

Sometimes for your Halloween garden, all you need are pumpkins and orange fencing.

Helps if it has vines growing from a bird bath. Really brings out some of the creepiness.

2. This mini garden must’ve been abandoned by fairies years ago.

But the pumpkins seem ripe and everything later looks like crap in the fall. Like the skeleton.

3. When it comes to Halloween some take time to dress their door on the trees.

Since it’s fall, the gnomes didn’t have to do much to their place. Just decorate the front door for trick or treaters.

4. Welcome to the fairy graveyard.

Complete with a dangling skull decoration. Still, almost didn’t see the graves in this one.

Well, this is a graveyard with a path and an imposing rock. But I’m not sure what the pumpkins are doing here.

The table has some bones on top. But none you’d want to give your dog. Like how the trees are decked for the holiday.

In real life, putting jack-o-lanterns on trees just weighs them down as well as poses a fire hazard. But this doesn’t seem too bad.

Seems like this person got a little creative with this miniature garden. I mean there’s a pumpkin with some painted gravestones and an eyeball trail. The cauldron looks perfect for a witch’s lair.

Yes, fall can be a rather windy time of year. It can also be quite rainy as well, especially in October.

As you might notice, the mini garden decorations aren’t always up to scale. Look on how the skeleton seems to be a giant compared to where the graves are and the other figures.

Because they tend to rise from their graves and haunt the place. Seem to have a good time.

Just don’t mind the Venus Fly Traps and the other weird flora here. They just eat the insects.

This one doesn’t seem to have much to do with it. Just needs some plants, a witch, and a few gourds and squashes.
