Naturally, the Baudelaires are sad to see Quigley Quagmire out of their lives thanks to the rushing water from the ice Violet cracked open with a breadknife. But Violet takes it especially hard since she was quite fond of him and might’ve even kissed him on the mountain. Of course, she was only with him for a couple of days. Yet, the Baudelaires really don’t have much opportunity to form relationships with people close to their age, especially in this case. Anyway, Sunny and Klaus try to reassure her, saying that Quigley will be all right and the meeting at Hotel Denouement. But as for now, they’re not sure where the Stricken Stream is taking them or whether they’ll see their friend ever again.
The song I went with is “Somewhere (There’s a Place for Us)” from West Side Story, in which Tony and Maria are imagining a better world where they can live in peace. Though to be fair, Tony did kill her brother Bernardo in a rage after he knifed Riff. Yet, that doesn’t matter to her. Unfortunately, Chino kills Tony in the end. In this version, I have a brokenhearted Violet lament Quigley’s disappearance being swept away from her by a frozen stream.
“Somewhere (There’s a Place for Us)”
Sung by Violet Baudelaire
There’s a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.
There’s a time for us,
Some day a time for us,
Time together with time spare,
Time to learn, time to care,
Some day!
Somewhere.
We’ll find a new way of living,
We’ll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere . . .
There’s a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and I can pull you here.
Hold my hand and we’ll both go there.
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!
