Like all writers on the internet, I struggle with appealing to an audience and attracting readers willing to set aside several minutes of their time. As someone who’s kept up a blog for seven years, I too, struggle to find ideas for posts that may captivate readers, which can prove challenging when there are no big holidays or major events going on in one’s area.
According to Digital Nomad Wannabe, bloggers need to do a lot more than just write and post good articles in order to increase traffic. Rather, they advocate a marketing strategy that is a combination of planning, keyword SEO, and social media promotion. In addition, they advocate emailing blog subscribers and followers as well as building a community around one’s blog. All strategies that have not changed very much since when I got started back in the 2010s. https://www.digitalnomadwannabe.com/increased-blog-traffic-from-0-to-100000/
That is not to say that content is not important either. According to Polly Clover Writes, one has to write with an audience in mind, publish enough articles, utilize creativity, use visuals, and give the reader a good user experience. They also state that blogging is a long game and attracting traffic can take from six months to a year of consisting posting to increase traffic. https://www.pollycloverwrites.com/blog/why-isnt-my-blog-getting-traffic
Nonetheless, in my blogging experience, I have three key tips to create content in order to reach an audience to generate traffic on one’s blog:
- Write about local events and holidays: When I consistently posted on my blog, I often did list posts on holidays and special events in my local area. Many of these attracted readers and followers on social media and often generated traffic that it became a thing I often did every year.
- Include visuals: Blog posts that include pictures often get traffic. When I look on my WordPress stats, most of the views come from posts with plenty of pictures on them.
- When writing a series, try to make it about popular topics: As a blogger, I often enjoy writing series about things that I enjoy. But I also keep in mind that what I write must be receptive to an audience. Topics of use might include popular TV shows and movies. Currently I’m working on a series of Disney voice actors.
In any case, if you are a writer with a blog, you must understand that even if you do the things I recommend, always remember that you will not become a success overnight. The blogosphere is a highly competitive world and building a blog takes time and consistency. But if you can keep at it, chances are you will hit your traffic targets eventually.
About the author: I am a writer who seeks to understand life and the world around her. I have written blog posts relating to politics, culture, mythology, history, art, movies, nature, literature, and humor. Yet, whatever I write about, I write what I please whether people like it or not for it is a passion of mine since I was a young girl. I call my blog The Lone Girl in a Crowd because I find myself as part of my world but never belonging to and never seeking to conform to it.
